New Classic Mini owner!...Need some help identifying fender flares

Hey guys,

I just got myself a 1979 Austin Mini, the car came with a peco exhaust and cooper S header, I love the car so far, it runs great, just needs some touch up here and there, My question is, the car came with a set of fender flares on it, can anyone identify which ones they are? I am trying to get a new set of wheels for it and am trying to figure out if i need a set of flares to go with them or if the current ones will work. Also if anyone knows anything about the wheels on it, that info would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

THOSE will work fine with up to 6 inch wheels, though they may stick out a little. looks like you have 12x5 right now.

These look like the "City" flares, which were standard on all Minis starting in the late seventies (I believe - my book is at home).

Here's a product page with some details, and MiniMania can answer more specific questions, I'm sure:

http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/GA.../InvDetail.cfm

Congrats on the new car!!

The answer to your questions is, Group 1 wheel arches on 10" Minilites

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm pretty sure they are the city flares, the car also has disc brakes from a later mini as well

The wheels are actually 12" wheels, i was told that they were some kind of rare rover wheel of some sort

I dunno about that... they look like my Minilite wheels which are not rare as far as I know - yours just have a cool center cap.

Looks good with the black studs, though - I might have to get some of those.

Thats what I figured, they looked like normal minilites to me as well, but I've had a couple people locally tell me they were a rare wheel, which seemed strange to me

Nice car BTW

It's hard to say from a photo... There's a huge price difference between "competition" rims and standard, but they all look like Minilites at first glance. Perhaps you do...

Thanks, BTW... I want a bonnet grille more like yours. I know it's not "correct" for my car (an "updated" '92) but I love the wings, you know?

So I spoke with the previous owner of my mini tonight and asked him about the wheels, he said that they are infact a rare rover sport wheel, he said it is identified by how the lug holes line up with the spoke vs. every other minilite on the market where the lug holes are offset, he mentioned that only about 1000 sets were produced, so I guess the hunt for more info is on!

Very nice car. The wheel arches as we call them and wheels are very much a standard item as we have in the UK. the cooper was fitted with these as standard when the john cooper garage got involved in the mini scene again. you can get the same wheel in all sorts of size's 10 inch/ 12 inch / 13 inch and lots of different wide fiment up to 8 inch on a 13 rim.
Car looks sweet!!

All the best

Andy UK
