Odd Request -- PLEASE HELP!!
Odd Request -- PLEASE HELP!!
I need help!! well, besides mentally...
Need a VIN from a 2005 or 2006 MC/MCS that has been totalled or been salvaged by an insurance company.
WHY?
Converting my 2002 MCS to use the remote opening functions of a 2006.
I need to order a replacement key anyways, so I figured I would replace the lock set (door and ignition) and replace 3 keys. I already have the harness corrected to use the 2005 mirror and hardware for the remote control functions.
I do have the VIN from my original 2006 MCS, but I fear if the guy who bought it decides to get another key it will not work, as they will issue me a new set with a new version of a cut key.
I perfer to use a totalled or salvaged VIN so I dont interfere with the keys to another car still in use!!!!

Well, ok... maybe the chicagoland post isn't the place for this question...
I've been to several salvage yards in IL, and AT BEST, I've found a 2004 MINI.. well, at least the headlight and hood and part of the shell... but no VIN.
Hoping someone might have totaled their MINI and possibly offer up the VIN!!

You have to provide proof of ownership if ordering a key for a current car.. ie, a single key that will be used on a currently operating vehicle.
Because the EWS and DME have to be re-coded, you can order a replacement lock set without ownership, only because you'll have 2 locks, 2 keys, and no vehicle that is a plug and play option.

MINI Dealers will want a copy of the current/active registration and your drivers license even BEFORE ordering a key.
And the address and name(s) on both these documents have to match. There are no exceptions to this policy.
Also, your current keys have replaceable battery. The 05/06's do not and new keys are $220.00....seems to be a step backwards.
Will also have to use the BCM and DME from the donor car as well.

Grey Raven -- again, lock SETS can be ordered without ownership.
The 2002 keys have less memory, and can not be programmed per person, per car. 2005 keys can, each person can have a seperate key with there settings on the car... wired from a BMW 3 series mirror.
And you need to talk to your dealer about $ of keys. 2005 keys are cheaper than 2002.
The BC1 and the DME are the same, because the wiring harness is swapped, and the EWS is going to be the same... I'm currently running a 2006 BC1, and the original DME. AND the BC1 is coded to my previous car, so I can code any 2005 or 06 key to the car, and the keyless entry works correctly. And no, there are no faults or idiot lights currently on because of this!!
