Welcome!!! Not too sure I could have waited that long for a second parking spot.

Most likely won't see you driving around but hope to see you at an event.

Even though there are so many MINIs in the city, there aren't a whole lot of city dwellers here in the forum. But, driving to the burbs for meets just means you get to drive the car that much more.

Don't expect a lot of wave-backs, but don't stop waving. We need to tip the enthusiast scale back in our favor and away from the fashionistas.

Oh, and you'll definitely find more parking spaces than you've had before. Just watch out when u-turning in the middle of the street to grab a space on the other side, the turning radius is huge for such a small car.

I'm in town off and on this winter, but I think it would be cool to wrangle up the cityfolk and have an in-town cruise sometime.

Just need to plan a route relatively free of potholes...

I'm in if there is a cruise in Chicago. I (led)did a cruise with members of BImmerfest.com about a year ago in the city. It was rainy and few people showed up (about 8). We started at a parking lot at Wilson and Lake Shore Drive. We drove down Lake Shore Drive to downtown and stopped at few places to take pics...Board of Trade, Picasso, Lower Wacker, City Hall then we headed to a pizza place(Connies) close to China Town.

It's not so bad really (driving near the Loop).. unless you have a pretty good sized group. Then it gets a little hairy... I've been trying to think of a city route that would not involve a lot of red lights that would break up the group. I know the northside pretty well... but it would be a challenge to keep everyone together, especially if they're not familiar with the city grid.

We've started our Sheridan Rd cruise off of LSD at Wilson. It's a nice big lot thats easy to get to early in the day.

I don't think keeping the group together would work without Police escorts. I like the late night idea, we could end up a some diner for breakfast too. The Club did a early morning city drive years ago that worked well, but it was early. Maybe a Sat midnight drive would be fun.

It would be fun to hear the cars ripping through the canyon of the buildings in the Loop. I think that your racing exhaust would sound good reverberating off off the buildings!

I've discussed a downtown picture shoot/cruise with my other car club, but we haven't done it yet. We were settling on doing it around dawn on a Sunday morning so that all of the drunks are off the streets, and to have more light for pictures. Midnight - 3:00am isn't a great time to be on the roads unless you are one of the barhoppers.

First of all... Welcome!

Second, I am totally up for the Chicago drive. If we have a lot of interest, maybe the 5 pack strategy would work. Let me know if you would like some tips on 'interesting' roads. Also, I agree that late Saturdays are full of drunks, and 2am is probably the worst time to be on the road. Otherwise driving in the city is not bad at all, just got to avoid the potholes!

When did someone say we were going to be on the road at 2am?

If we did a late night drive, I was thinking, meet somewhere at 10pm, be someone for coffee by midnight and headed home before 2am.

Having been the victim of a DUI Driver I'm well aware of the risk.

Sorry, the "midnight drive", "late night", "breakfast" mentionings made we want to suggest avoiding the downtown section when the clubgoers are all out and about. I figured that 6:00am (or just after dawn) on a Sunday morning would pretty much ensure empty streets and enough light for better pictures.

I hate mornings, and based on the survey we did I'm not alone. I understand limited traffic at 6am. In order to have a 6am event, I would get up at 4am :( leave my place at 5am :( going to bed late is always easier then getting up early. IMHO. The bottom line for a downtown event, there will never be a perfect time, just a better time that some will think is too late, some will think it's to early. LOL
