Bea and I expect to relocate from the Northern Virginia area in August. We look forward to meeting members of Bluegrass Minis.

Vince,

Are you in the Louisville or Lexingont area? Perhaps neither. Check out our website and come on over for the next monthly dinner/meeting. Also, there is a big car show in Louisville the weekend of 4 June. We look forward to meeting you.

We will be south of Lexington about 20 miles or so. I doubt we will make it back before we pack it out. I will visit the site and mark my calendar nonetheless. Thanks.

I grew up in Lousiville years ago and Bea is from just north of NYC.

I have already discovered that the price of a sanctuary is the lack of broadband. And the forums are filled with satellite nay sayers. It is one facet of this move I am not looking forward to. But there is a MINI club, so we are happy.

So 20 miles out of Lexington is too far for broadband? That's a shame. I'm only one county out of Louisville and can go either cable or DSL -- not sure how much farther out either goes though.

I think DSL typically is 18000 copper feet from the Central Office and that office has to have upgraded their equipment to support DSL. That is only 3 miles. My driveway is 4/10 of a mile. Ain't going to happen. I did not see much cable but maybe I was not paying enough attention. A wireless ISP (WISP) is a possibility but the range is only about 3-5 miles and LOS.

Wild Blue, a Ka band spot beam offering, is about ready to launch. Meanwhile there are other fish in the skillet.

Did you guys go down to Fontana? We were there last year, but this year we were psyched to find new digs and went to Kentucky instead. Next year. Our local club, DCMM was the overall organizer this year I think. I hope it went well. I have not been to a club event since they got back to ask.

There are two major cable companies in the area: Insight and Adelphia. You might be in luck with one of them.
