new classic mini owner

ello' all. my name is chris, just purchased a 1974 leland mini. its in south carolina, trying to get it here asap. has anyone shipped a car before or have any suggestions on getting it home. im also looking for a mechanic that will be able to sevice it when i cant. unique auto around buechel bypass, seems to be my best bet so far. otherwise i have more mini bookmarks than i can handle and just want to get familar with my car and others that share the same love for the little cars.

I used to use McNutt Auto Transport to ship my specialty cars. They have a website (can't remember the add right now) that will give you an estimate for what you need. It's nice too because they can place a single vehicle. Most companies have to send a truck just to pick up one car, but they are a broker and can usually find a truck heading through wherever the car is. That cuts down considerably on cost.

I bought mine from a couple in Hilton Head SC. They deal with a shipper that shipped to here in AL more reasonably than I could find. I don't know who they use, but I can find out or refer you to them. Regarding Mini service, get the Haynes book, and familiarize yourself with NAM's clasic Mini forum as well as that on the Minimania site. The MM site has more nuts and bolts info and is frequented by many Classic Mini wizards.

Fantastic! I might contribute a few thoughts after seeing your pictures: You have a 1275cc engine (as determined from the angle of the heater valve).
You have a 'pre-A+' engine block that has been upgraded to use an alternator.
The radiator shroud is the later model 1-piece design.
The electric after-market Air Horns are fun to hear.
The twin SU carbs are not common on a Mini of the age.
The distributor has a vacuum advance.
The clutch return spring anchor is worn out, not effective and should be replaced.
The remains of a bracket as mounted on the cylinder head between #2 and 3 cylinder is a for a distributor water shield that is missing.
After-market air filter can be isolated from the cabin with the stock bulk-head sound-proofing that is missing (also fits behind the 2-speed wiper motor).
While in the shade of the picture- it looks like the hood lock mechanism is missing.
Heater control cable is missing from a strange looking control valve.
After-market chromed valve cover is no longer available.

wow, i cant believe you got all that from the pic. it is a 1275 that was described as unusual. from some of what you said i gather some problem areas. is anything really really bad? like needing addressed before driving at all?

I used Angel Wings Transport about a year ago. 770-358-9454. it was about 3 dollars a mile one way.I 'm not sure they are still around. I picked them because they were near the car I had shipped.
