AMVIV 5
Another great AMVIV is in the books, and to reiterate what has been said, what a great job by all the folks from Sin City Mini and the rest who helped make AMVIV 5 such a great event!
Glad you made it home through all the bad weather. Thanks for coming all the way from Canada to experience an AMVIV!
Steve
I got a text msg from Xiek (the other crazy Canadian) it appears he rolled into to Ontario at 04:30 this morning. I don't think he stopped at all. He lost his A-pillar cover from what I understand. From all the trials and tribulations he and his car went through I'm surprised he's not driving the Fred Flinstone mobile by the time he hit the border!

We took Hwy-168 last year when we visited the folks. An Über-Mini road! Unfortunately for us, any future AMVIV trip won't include 168 as all the passes over the Sierra's are still snow blocked.
I owe you a big one for buffing my door Sunday Morning.
The event was great. Met a lot of new people, and saw some old friends.
Man what fun. Met tons of folks I'd talked to online, or heard about. Saw some incredible MINIs and Minis. Noodled around with M7's fancy new supercool flappy paddle gearbox, talked with Todd at TCE about Brakes, talked with CorBlmy about suspensions, watched TC Kline kick butt on the Solo1 session, got to know Randy from M7 (hey, dude..), met Agro, and generally met tons of cool folks.
Thanks to Agro and all the fine folks at SinCityMINIs for putting on such a big event. Everything from casino gambling to some recreational drinking, to playing Call of Duty on a xbox with the screen strapped to the Alta tent in the rather gusty Las Vegas nightly wind.
I can't believe we're back in Oregon. I think we took the one pass (Hwy 140) that didn't have snow, and made it home Monday night about 7. One cracked windshield (thanks mister rock...), one curbed wheel, and one marred up clear bra (from the traditional bra laid over it, not liking 135 mph sustained speeds in the Nevada backcountry...
) are the battle scars on the MINI proving we made it there and back.
What a great time.

1 new windscreen $218
1 interior cleaning to get marinara sauce cleaned up $80
1 broken wheel bolt $92
1 a-pillar replacement $71
Out running 2 tornadoes on your way home from a 10,000 km roadtrip from Vegas where you motored with your friends
Priceless
Mastercard will help get you by,
but the MINI will get you through EVERYTHING else!

I must say, MINI of St. Louis really came through for me.. in/out in about 20mins... and no exhuberant charges on the invoice...
.1 labour...
You guys seem to have a great Dealer down there.

I don't think anything can get him down!
OH STOP....
Just have to look at things like this...
Ya the windscreen sux.. but it really was best case.. no one was hurt, and just the glass was damaged....
the wheel bolt... ya it broke, but the wheel didn't fly off doing xxx MPH which it could have.
the a-pillar... well that was probably the result of the windscreen.. that happened a few days before.. but it was fixed in 20 mins.. and for not that much $$....
I still got to meet a lot of you face to face... WHICH WAS AWESOME!!!!!

Thanks to the WestCoast MINIs for letting us join in your rally on the way down the 15!! We were hoping you all would be pulling off at Nipton for the dips and twisties throughout the backroad!! I was chasing your boot yellowbritishrocket until taken by the agro minivans at stateline...was able to catch back on with my tailer...another WC MINI in a IB/W...great ride! See you all soon!

Driving through the freezing rain / sleet in Utah: the ice in the grill was 3/4" thick in places, must have been 20 lbs of ice.

2135 miles and driving through 3 snowstorms makes for a very dirty boy. The dirt on the boot felt like sandpaper.

Where is Octane Guy when you REALLY need him?

It was a great time we are already planning for next year. Nice meeting everyone. Having made as many of the runs as possible this year, next year will likely be less chaotic.
We heard the snow reports for Denver and decided the 40 route would be best at the last minute. We made Erick, Oklahoma before we stopped on the first night. There was a big t-storm ahead of us so we decided no night thunderstorms in Oklahoma for us. The second day was spent trying to outrun an epic t-storm and its tornado that was spotted in the next county over. It caught us in Missouri and we were driving at full wiper speed most of the way through Illinois.
One of our favorites from the North Shore cruise:

Some wild hogs on the death valley run (do not do this run hung over-trust me):

the rest are and will be here (still uploading). http://s261.photobucket.com/albums/i...albumview=grid
