Cancer Benefit Ride?

Hey fellow Baminians & Rocket City'ers... I have the chance to meet Mrs Skurvy & pick up the cancer banner that is being passed accross the US (discussed in this thread ) in the next few weeks. I am willing to meet her to get it & arrange to pass it along to the next group if you guys would like to get together & do something. If anybody has any great charitable event idea let me know. If not MBE we could just get together & plan a ride & each donate a little something. I would only want to do this if we could have a decent turnout which means people need to speak up & RSVP in this thread please

So if anybody is interested I am thinking our ride will need to be Aug 18th, 19th, 25th, or 26th.

Let me know your thoughts ASAP please so I can let Mrs Skurvy know

I'm in on any of those dates. Maybe the Bham MINI bunch can hand it off the Rocket City bunch, who can hand it off to a TN bunch somewhere?

That sounds like a good plan. MBE we could do a Cheaha or Little River Canyon ride or something where we could go N & Rocky City could come S to get together? I wonder if jst4fun could reschedule the Talladega tour for any of those times.

If we luck out and the date is good, I would love to contribute. Meeting the Rocket City folk would be cool as I'm in Huntsville allot. It'll be great to take part in such a worthy cause.

Mozzearella, I'm so sorry to hear about your wife.

Well I am taking the 18th & 19th off the table because I as an idjit & forgot my mom was coming to town & we are having a big birthday celebration.

So is anybody free either the 25th or 26th

I am thinking we ride down near Desoto caverns & meet Mrs Skurvy & one other (if they are free to travel from GA on one of those days). We can take them on a nice scenic drive over to & including the Hwy 25 twisties & then go over to Milo's on Hwy 280 & have a burger. Mrs Skurvy is on the hunt for a good burger & I think Milo's is a bama burger definitely worth checking out.

We can all sign the banner & I say make personal donations to your cancer charity of choice. I will be responsible for getting the banner on to the next group.

Those dates are fine with me. I don't know that I'd call Milo's a burger representaive of Alabama. But if they want to try a local favorite, ok with me.

Hey now. I can't think of another fast food burger local to AL that beats Milos. If you can speak up & if you say hamburger heaven I am going to ask what you've been smoking

The 26th sounds fine with me I will see if Mrs Skurvy is free & get back to you guys with more info

In August? No problems foreseen. With cheese, no pickle, grilled onions is how I prefer. And for a great cause.

No more of a Hwy 25 run. We will meet Mrs Skurvy either around the Hwy 76/21 intersection (near Desoto Caverns) or possibly a little closer to Talladega, then we can drive back the scenic route & hit Hwy 25, then go to Milo's off Valleydale. I figure all of us locals can meet at Winn Dixie in Chelsea then drive over to meet the GA folks from there

Why is the GA bunch coming this far? Certainly not for Milo's? We can't meet them more "half way"? So many questions... so little time.

Long story but it all started with Mrs Skurvy & Trinity wanting a What-a-Burger now that they opened in Alabama & me saying Milo's was better then it turned into a cross-state multi-hamburger sampling ride & now here we are with the banner swap, Milo's, & Hwy 25 ride While they are here I guess we could all stop by Hamburger Heaven also to prove that they are over-rated.

This is what Atlanta MINI's is doing for there cancer drive.

Summer Drive to Helen GA and MINIs Motoring Against Cancer

Hello AtlantaMINIS! Join us Sunday August 5 for a scenic drive to Helen GA. We'll meet at the North Georgia Premium Outlets off GA 400 in Dawsonville at 10:30AM, with a departure time of 11AM. The drive to Helen should take about 2 hours which includes a rest stop along the way. Once in Helen we'll have lunch at Viele Margaritas overlooking the Chattahoochee River. Their menu varies from wraps to burgers ($5-$10). Then around 2-2:30PM the drive will continue with a stop in Batesville for some ice cream.

Directions:

North Georgia Premium Outlets is about 35 minutes north of Atlanta off GA 400. Take exit 27 toward Dahlonega / Cumming. The Outlets will be on the left. Look for all the MINIs parked at the North end of the mall.

Depending on our numbers we may leave in two staggered groups. Maps and written directions will be provided. Make sure to bring your two way radios set to Channel 7, subchannel 21.

MINIs Motoring Against Cancer

In the spirit of MINI Motoring Hearts, AtlantaMINIS has joined forces with other MINI clubs around the country with MINIs Motoring Against Cancer (MMAC). The organizers of MMAC have designed a banner that is being passed from club to club to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Each member that makes a donation will be allowed to sign the banner before we send it to the next club. In addition, MINI of South Atlanta will be giving out Motoring Hearts grill badges (a $16 value) to those who make a donation. One badge per MINI! Proceeds will go to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, so please bring your wallets and checkbooks and a generous heart to help AtlantaMINIS motor against cancer.

We hope everyone can join us on the 5th. It will be a great chance not only to motor and spend time with your fellow AtlantaMINIs, but also a chance to help others as well. So mark your calenders and reply to this thread if you plan to attend.

Thanks everyone! Can't wait to meet you all! I'm originally from Texas, so Whataburger is near and dear to my heart, but Ms. Bamatt has sworn to me up and down that Milo's is better, so I'm willing to try it. So glad you all are willing to participate in the Cancer Drive too. ; )

See you soon!

Kim

I figure as of right now we should plan on meeting at Winn Dixie in Chelsea to drive off at 10AM. I will get the time finalized with Mrs Skurvy better once I get home & map out all the travel distances

Well hec if y'all wanna truly do a burger run we can hit both Milo's & Hamburger Heaven as they are very near to each other on Hwy 280 & if you wanna stick around a teeny bit longer we can also hit What-a-Burger in Alabaster as it will only add around 15 miles & you can jump right on Interstate 65 less than a mile from there to head back to GA.

Hec while you are here we might as well make it a full burger run

i wish i had seen this sooner, i could do saturday the 25th but sunday the 26th is no good for me. i have church on sundays but i will think about it and might still do this. i'm from decatur so where would be a good place to meet up at? is there a good meeting place somewhere in the middle of the starting point to where you are going to end this? i can go to the early service at church which ends at 9:00 so i maybe could meet you somewhere after nine. if not i will just have to plan on doing it another time. i'm not part of any club so i hope that's ok. i should be getting my mini this friday so this would be a great way to break it in.

my mom is a breast cancer survior and her sister (my aunt) just passed away on july 21st of brain cancer so i would love to be apart of this.

just let me know if there is a good place to meet up at and i will see what i can do.

Here are the finalized ride details...

The date is Sunday, August 26th. We will pull out of the Winn Dixie in Chelsea parking lot at 10AM sharp (so get there before then please ). We will motor down Hwy 280, to Hwy 76, to Hwy 21 to meet Mrs Skurvy & Trinity at the Phillip's gas station in Munford, AL. We will then take a nice scenic route over to run the Hwy 25 twisties ending up at Milo's on Hwy 280 to grab a burger.

If anybody cannot make the ride but wants to meet our 2 Atlanta friends & sign the banner that is being passed across the USA come by Milo's & join us for a burger. I "estimate" we will hit Milo's somewhere around 12:30PM.

I am also selling some really sharp window decals (thanks COOPERation) to commorate our ride (click here for ordering info). Even if you cannot attend the ride or come by Milo's to sign the banner please think about purchasing a decal to show your support for the fight against cancer.

I hope we can have a really big turnout to show our support for this great project started by Red Ryder & to meet & great our friends from Atlanta in a proper Alabama MINI fashion

(details will also be posted at www.bamamini.com soon)

Coolbeans! This looks like a fun ride for a GREAT cause. I will be posting it on the website just as soon as me and bamatt can get some maps and logos ready for it. Is there any other way to try and raise money so that when the day is over we have more to offer than just memories?
Any ideas?
