Cancer Benefit Ride?
Excuse me for asking such a silly question but what is the difference between "Mini's" and "MINIs" ? I am also confused about the R56 and so on. I want to get it right. What am I driving? Enlighten me
The 'MINI' term refers to the BMW (2002 and later) version. 'Mini' refers to the "classic" Austin/Rover/Morris/BMC Mini - the original (1959-2000). Some refer to the "new" MINIs as "BINIs". The "Rxx" designation refers the the BMW MINI body styles. R50 is the Cooper hatchback (through 2006), R53 is the 2002-2006 Cooper 'S' Hatchback, R52 is the Cabrio, R56 is the 2007 (and later) hatchback. The Clubman is R57. See the top of this forum section "1st and 2nd Generation MINIs" for more info.
OK you guys.... This looks like fun... and a great cause..... Our MINI club is thinking of doing some type of charity function and I'd like to propose this to our club....
My questions: Who has the banner now???.... Can we get it to Phoenix, AZ??? (I don't anticipate any of us driving to AL for it... Are there other clubs in MS, TX and NM interested in this?)

Harpo I have not heard from anyone in the national thread. I just posted again to see if any group between me & you would like the banner along the way. If I don't hear anything from anyone & you guys want it I will make arrangements to UPS it to you. Our ride is next Sunday so we can finalize everything after that
YAY! I'm so excited that we only have a week count down for the ride!!
The banner comes in a nicely packaged box so we could ship it if we want, but I believe the intent was to hand it off to folks as opposed to mailing it.
I can get it to Austin, Texas folks via airplane the end of October if need be, but surely there are some folks between Alabama and Texas that would be willing to contribute...

I spoke with the banner originator & he said the original intent was for it to be passed by hand across the US but since it was shipped to GA he said shipping it was fine. I have not heard from any group except the AZ folks saying that they want the banner next & I have posted in the Nat'l banner thread, so if I don't hear from anyone else I guess I will ship it to AZ when we are done

That pretty much sums it up. We're never too old to learn, are we

Yep I am very excited & a bit nervous at the same time. I think we are going to have a big turnout & we have never tried to caravan so many cars at once
but we will have fun no matter what

You know with our group you never really know til you pull in the parking lot but I feel like we have 10 MINIS confirmed & 4-6 little British cars so... I estimate we will have somewhere between 3 & 30 cars

Looking forward to the ride.
Correct me if this has changed, please.
Correct me if this has changed, please. Here are the finalized ride details...
The date is Sunday, August 26th. We will pull out of the Winn Dixie in Chelsea parking lot at 10AM sharp (so get there before then please
). We will motor down Hwy 280, to Hwy 76, to Hwy 21 to meet Mrs Skurvy & Trinity at the Phillip's gas station in Munford, AL. We will then take a nice scenic route over to run the Hwy 25 twisties ending up at Milo's on Hwy 280 to grab a burger.
If anybody cannot make the ride but wants to meet our 2 Atlanta friends & sign the banner that is being passed across the USA come by Milo's & join us for a burger. I "estimate" we will hit Milo's somewhere around 12:30PM.
I am also selling some really sharp window decals (thanks COOPERation) to commorate our ride (click here for ordering info). Even if you cannot attend the ride or come by Milo's to sign the banner please think about purchasing a decal to show your support for the fight against cancer.
I hope we can have a really big turnout to show our support for this great project started by Red Ryder & to meet & great our friends from Atlanta in a proper Alabama MINI fashion
(details will also be posted at www.bamamini.com soon)

Well our local weather guys are predicting some scattered rain for Sunday but at least it will cool the temperatures down a bit. It figures, in the middle of a severe drought, rain will come on the one day we have a ride planned
. Ahhhh well I will be there rain or shine because you never know with our weather... it can be raining in one area & then 2 miles away, no rain. Plus if I have to break out the windshield wipers, so be it. Hopefully the big guy upstairs will see fit to give us a break in the clouds when we get to the good curves on Hwy 25
Looking forward to the ride & I will be at Winn Dixie at 9:30(ish) in the morning come rain or shine.

We just got back from Seattle about an hour ago (after 23 horrible hours in transit
) so we won't be making the run tomorrow, sorry
I'll ask one of the Rocket City guys (probably Magic MINI or one of the Steven's) to pick up my decal for me. Sorry we won't be joining y'all but we're just wasted :impatient
Have fun

It's raining cats and dogs here in Atlanta, so hopefully it will get it's nasties done tonight and we'll have a beautiful drive tomorrow... if not, I'll just get to check out my new sticky tires in the rain!!!

Well Jerry Tracey has modified the weather forecast a bit... He is now saying there is now only a slim chance of rain & it won't start til 1PM. It's gonna be humid & cloudy & they are only predicting 1/100th of an inch by 1PM so I don't think we are gonna get washed away or anything
