Night Photography Session
I have been asked by a couple of other MOTD attendees to help them with some night photography. So after some thought I came up with this idea of having a Night Photography Session. We will be having a full moon on the 28th, which could provide us with some excellent moonscape photos. Also I will show you how to "paint" with light which is always a fun thing to do with several people. We will do all of our photography on and around the grounds of Fontana Village. If we have some nice clear dark skies toward Saturday night, we can try our hand at photographing star trails.
For those that are intersted in attending this impromtu session, I would like some idea how many of you would be interested in this. I will print out some hanouts for those that attend.
Some photographic equipment you may want to drag along:
- Tripod (a must!)
- Cable release (this holds your shutter open for long exposures)
- A flash light of some kind. A 2 million candlepower flood would be overkill, but something like a medium Maglite will work fine.
- A camera flash that can be fired off manually, that is, without having it attached to your camera to make it flash.
- A camera of course. A SLR or DSLR works the BEST for long exposures. A point-and-shoot will work if you can keep the shutter open for an indefinite amount of time.
We can plan this for Wednesday night during the full moon, depending upon the weather. The painting with light would be best to do under some very dark skies. The moonlight can affect the outcome of our photos if the sky is too bright.
So give please give me some feedback on what night or nights work best for those that are interested in learning how to do some night photography.
Thanks!

Right now I think Friday night would be the best night for painting with light, maybe right after the Brew Swap. For those wanting to try your hand at moonscape photos, Wednesday night would be great. Hopefully the weather will hold out. We could meet on the porch of the main dining hall after the wine tasting is over.
I will have some announcements at the dinners, or on the erase board that will have updates on events.
Fair warning here, I may have a torn meniscus in my right knee which MAY prevent me from going to the Dragon. Right now it feels MUCH better than it did 2 days ago, especially with vicodin! Driving was really a pain but is better right now. I'm having an MRI tomorrow to see exactly what the doc wants to do about it. So keep watching this post. Right now I'm planning on being there.

Me too. MINIs are so colorful they make some great shots. I also saw in the event guide there are some great looking waterfalls there. I am going to have to break away and get a few shots of those one morning or evening.

Sign my honey up!! He has a Canon 40D and all of the above mentioned items except for the cable. He said he is very interested in doing both the moonscapes and light painting. We'll be at the welcome dinner and he will meet up with you on the porch at 8:30.
PS - His name is Neal, just FYI. LOL!!
