Midnight on the Dragon IV
Yay! Our Yucca is such a cool science nerd!

And I like your sigline, Louispup!

I just don't have the skills of some. . .
but I am encouraged that a master approves of my digital crayon work!

I like mine just BELOW the level of the high beams (more or less in-between the low- and high-beam spots). Keep in kind that in most states the only LEGAL way to use driving lights is with high-beams. Lot of people like to put them straight in the middle for max range, but I've tried many configurations and prefer more light lower down, where I can see into corners and such. I believe that if you do lots of straighter-line drivnig that a more focused, higher "pencil" beam would be more advantageous. The "proper" way to aim lights is to get your car level about 30 feet from a wall, then turn on the high beams. Mark the center of the beams with Post-its or some other mark, and then use THOSE marks to properly aim the driving lights.
Note that MY way, I feel like I get good advantage with either low OR high beams, but that might be a subjective thing (probably is).
I just Googled "aiming driving lights", read about 6 articles, compared what was consistent in all of them and then experimented for a few nights until I hit the pattern that I liked the best.

Well, the point is that driving 318 curves in 11 miles kind of rules out straight-line driving. We adjust the rally lights for the run, only.

yeah, i have mine linked to my high beams right now, in terms of height i think they are fine with the highbeams
i meant in terms of how far infront of the car the hotspot is, eg the instructions that came with my PIAAs said to hotspot them 25ft infront of the car crossing them in (the black line is 25ft long)

i stole your pic cuz it rox

anyway- i dont have rally lights- what kind of tape is recomended for taping two led flash lights to the hood- i dont want any resadooo

If the black line is 25ft long then that MINI is the Titanic.
Let’s use more diagrams and pictures.
What many that have not driven the Dragon, many who have and even at night, do not realize is how fast turns come up in the dark and the actual radius of the turns.
.
Let’s look at just one of the turns, Shade Tree Corner.
It is a 270 degree plus turn in less the 60 feet radius. It drops or elevates some 75 feet in less that half a city block. During the day and the direction you may be traveling, you either have clear vision through the wind screen or you are looking straight through the A plier of your MINI and blind for the entire turn.
Either direction you are driving you would have daylight and possibly good driving conditions. You can judge distance because light allows you have depth perception.
But Shade Tree Corner from the Midnight on the Dragon prospective looks a little more like this…
