Quote: Chows, the reasoning behind the yellow headlights on that car are most likely a rules thing. In American Le Mans competition GT cars must run yellow lights while prototypes must run white lights. The reasoning is so drivers can tell what class car is overtaking them. If a driver sees yellow lights he knows its a slower GT car. If he sees white ones he knows its a much faster car.
Sounds reasonable. You learn something new everyday. Thanks!

Who knew?

This is interesting ... yellow headlights are illegal in CA ...

Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.

Yellow Fog Lights
If you have ever been to Europe, most all cars have yellow fog lights and alot have a lighter yellow running light. Because they just work better in the fog and its always foggy over there. Only cars without them were G.I.s that had cars shipped from the states to Europe. Does that help? Oh even the street lights were yellow.

Has anyone used the Daniel Stern bulbs? I'm thinking that the H9 bulb on the H7 base might be a good "upgrade" for my high beams and would save me the trouble of mounting the spotlight

Dude, how are you going to fit driving lights without incurring Union Jack blockage??

You'll have to make up for it by installing a new one somewhere

No worries. I'll just s l i d e that grille badge over a bit. That one will be wearing TarHeelMinis at MOTD, anyway...

Oh yeah, I just ordered another pair of UJs tonight for somewhere else. And I have two others in route already... and I'm making a couple more that I know of... there will be plenty for the UJ challenged.

OK, after you veterans scared the beejezus outta me, I got my Hellas installed today. And I'm still waiting on my Daniel Stern god awful bright high beam bulbs... so I should be able to sufficiently light up the guy or gal in front of me...

There really is no need to have big lights unless you want to run the Dragon othertimes by yourself late at night. I am planning on driving Midnight on the Dragon IV with only my parking lights on and the reflection of other people's high beams off my bald head.

Those lights look great BlimeyCabrio. I got mine installed this past Thursday(yet another shameless copy of ImagoX's great ideas), but haven't done the final aiming of them yet. Right now they are a little low and still light up the world-can't wait to see how they do once I have them aimed better.

Moskito, I guess we need to make sure we aren't close together on the run or we'll blind each other with the reflections off 'the baldness'.

Are rally lights really required?
I had built up the nerves to do it, but with all I am reading, it seems most people think the extra lights are needed. Can i do it with my standard lights and fogs? Thanks.

you will be fine with the regular lights, just like you will be fine with runflats and stock brakes (like me last year) it is just a bit extra for fun like most mods

You do not need extra lighting. It's nice to have, but none of us are fast enough to outrun our headlights. . .

well. . . except some folks in dark silver MINI's. . . .

Got my GodAwefulBright 65w Osram bulbs from Daniel Stern yesterday. Wow. Them things is BRIGHT. Between those, my xenons, and my Hellas, it's like Blimey has aircraft landing lights when I put the high beams on.... I LIKE it.
