Midnight on the Dragon IV

Oh. My. God.
That was the most awesome, most addictive, most adrenaline-surging thing I've ever done fully clothed... The whole event was just awesome - the festival atmosphere, the lighted MINIs, the fun people, the great driving, the well-monitored course - just awesome.

MKO rocks. Thanks guys - and to all others who helped organize, direct traffic, gather donations, etc.
Good thing it's once a year - 'cause I'd do it EVERY Saturday night if I could... best dang reason to stay stone cold sober I know of...
(and please - hold the 'what a dull life you must have had' commentary)

(...and my wife now understands why I wanted driving lights so bad
)
Must say the midnight run was fun. Just ONE point for next year: If you are driving behind a group of people and not leading there is NO reason to be running your light bars. After multiple warnings via radio, we were still light blinded around every turn from behind by someone running their light bar. not a good situation. dangerous situation, i know it looks cool and all but not at the sake of safety, etc.
maybe next year people will learn.

mirrors. no matter how we adjusted them the light would still reflect into our eyes basically blinding us either around the turns on the straights, or out of the turns. thats the problem with a road like that the elevations go up and down, round and round. you get the idea.
im over it, thought i would point it out for the future.
EDIT: i also do not believe these lights were even pointed at the ground whatesoever.
GLOW STICKS = FUGGIN AWESOME ! NICE WORK DT CREW!

Really sorry you had a bad experience. But I tilted my rear view and side mirrors ALL the way UP - toward the heavens. And NEVER saw any light from behind me the entire run. A little spooky not knowing what's behind you. But it worked fine for me - the the folks behind me were lighting up the folks ahead of me...
That was awesome. I only live an hour's drive from the Dragon, but I only get a few chances to run it a year in the '66. I had to work at the bike shop in Knoxville during most of MOTD, so I was glad I could make it out for one event at least. Glow sticks were a blast, and I'm happy I could sort of keep up with the newer cars, considering mine is still a serious work-in-progress. I'd love to know if anyone picked up extra t-shirts, as I didn't find this thread until after the event. If not, I'll just keep my eyes peeled earlier next year.
Hope to see a lot of you at Mini Meet East in Alcoa (ten miles from the Dragon), June 28th thru July1st- http://www.mme2007.com

Actually, MKO provided the glow stick "spermies," as we do every year. Tori and Chad volunteered to help us distribute them and collected quite a lot of money for our cause in a few short minutes! Thanks to so many of you for your generous donations to our charity, United Cerebral Palsy. A full accounting of donations will be posted once we get a chance to tally up the numbers and distribute the final few shirts.
Travellering, I have a few Midnight shirts left. Shoot me a PM.
It is tradition to run all of your lights on full blast - just tilt your mirrors. This has been done since 2003.
Bummer I missed this year, but with the problems with SF, I am glad I took it easy...and I was winning at Monte Carlo Night to boot!
Glad you all had fun...Maybe next year!!

Midnight run was awesome! I little foggy and wet, which meant slower and more cautious, but still fun. I might've snapped a few cool shots, but I have to download them from my camera tonight to check.
Did anyone get a count of how many there were?

Seconded
I also would like to have a few cocktails on Saturday night since it's the last night and can't if I do Midnight on the Dragon
We were in the Midnight on the Dragon Official Cheerleading group at the overlook, and counted right around 75 MINIs making the return run to Deal's Gap.
I'm not sure if you guys could see it as you passed by, but we aimed the cars to form a light arch across the top of the road for you to pass through
We took a bunch of pictures, but the combination of bright lights, motion, fog, and a cheap camera were all working against us, so I don't know how many turned out okay. I'll add a link once I get them all uploaded.
P.S.: The batsignal looked great from where we were

Wish I could see it AND help make it... cause making it was seriously fun...
I have a POSTER print coming of a really good long exposure I took of the bat signal at Tabcat lighting up the mountain - if it looks as good on the print as it does on my screen I'll put these up on zazzle or somewhere for anyone else who wants one...
