Walking Away From Car While Engine Is On Warning.

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anybody figured out how to turn off the "walking away from car while engine is on" honk? I typically don't leave the car running but some times I forget to turn off the lights or have to go grab something from the house and the car honks twice when I am about 5ft away. On an afternoon not so bad, but 7 AM in morning when the streets are still quiet, it is quite annoying. I don't want to be a bad neighbor.

Thanks,

No way to turn it just that off that I'm aware of, and it's one of the only complaints I have about the car but it's a big one. Some cars you can turn off locking the car when you walk away and it will disable this behavior, but that's losing a pretty important feature. I haven't tested it on mine because it's a sacrifice I'd never make. It's really annoying to have to turn the car off just to go walk 10 feet to my mail area or to walk a garbage can down or up my driveway.

Hi elkay,
At the risk of possibly embarrassing myself because you've probably already thought of this: since you described going not far away at all, would the environment be safe for you to simply leave the key in the car for the minute or two it takes to deal with the mail or rubbish!

The message wasn't directed at me but in my scenario, I don't even carry the key anymore because they make the digital key so easy to use. Also the key is huge now. My phone is typically in my pocket when I am driving. So what you are suggesting would still trigger the warning in my situation but it is good to hear other idea to work around this.

Other cars do the same thing and you cannot turn it off, hondas beep like crazy once you exit the car. Range rovers beep loud and a dash light comes on.

Cannot turn it off. Its a safety feature.

My main living room is right next to my garage and using the phone as a key was having the car constantly trigging locking/unlocking as I walked around the room with my phone. I had to remove the phone as a key so I can't use this feature.

Hello all, I'm brand new here and this is my first Mini but I'm loving it.
OP I was playing with the door locks on and off via approach of the car and turning them both off seems to have done what you're asking.

Thanks I will give it a try. I know there has been a few software updates and I haven't tried it since.
