Harness for the Dragon.

My wife told me that she was talking to someone at Fontana about their harness. Apperently this harness clips into the back seatbelt receiver.

Does anyone know what kind of harness this is and where I could get a set?

Steve

It's probably a Schroth Harness. It's a little bit more involved than just "cliping it in" but very minor install details. They usually retail for about $225 and are available in a few colors. I have one and I love it.

I keep thinking about them. One of our friends just put in a harness in his M Roadster and my hubby has a harness in his EVO and just sitting in the seat with the harness all done up makes me feel more secure and comfortable. I think one of my next significant purchases will include a set of these. Only problem is with the way my hubby drives I need to get one for both seats

We have and them for a couple of years now for driver and passenger. Wouldn't want to do the Dragon without them in either seat now!

In retrospect, I definately should have gotten driver & passenger harnesses before The Dragon. I don't think they're mandatory, but its just one less thing to think about. My passenger rode in another car where she had a harness, and then in mine, and said that it was so much better being fully strapped in (). They've officially been added to the never ending list of mods.

From my driver's school days, there has been concern using harnesses without a roll bar. If you were to -god forbid- roll the car, the harness does not allow you to lean over incase the roof were to collapse.

I realize you are using them for street use, but not sure if you had considered this.

This is an excellent point and why I went with a CG lock right before the Dragon. It worked rather well. It keeps your hips planted in the seat but still allows the shoulder belt to move freely. Do a search on NAM, this subject has been beaten to death.

If your roof collapses...pretty good chance you're dead anyway

I have heard this a lot from people who oppose using harnesses in none race preped cars, but I have never heard of anyone actually being severly injured because of this situation. I would be interested in reading some cases if anyone has any. Additionally the Schroth is DOT approved and utilizes the OEM belt tensioner in the case of a crash. I have not seen any of the other harnesses out there for the MINI have those features.

My passenger and I used the Schroth harnesses (one from Outmotoring, the other from ProMINI) and were very happy with them. We both "felt" much more secure and safe because of the harness. I have also used the Schroth during track events and it has held very nicely. My one complaint is it is a bit of a pain to put both harnesses into the car. The first one is easy, because you can slide the opposing seat forward to get to the back seat, but the second one proves to be a bit of a challenge.

I would give it a 9 out of 10 and recommend Outmotoring as a source.

I also have the Schrotm harness and Helix Minisports sells a roll cage that is an ideal addition for those with top heavy tendencies...It's the VAC bolt in roll cage...
