Besides Fontana, where are people staying?

Well, I think I finally talked my wife into going to MOTD. Now I just have to figure out where to stay. Obviously Fontana Village is already full, so where are other people staying? I haven't called around yet (probably tonight) but Tapoco looks good from what I can tell on the web. But does anyone have any recommendations based on past experience? Plus I'd like to be around other Mini people and not at the one lodge/hotel where there are none. It looks like the rest of the listed places are further from Fontana.

Thanks for the tips in advance!

There's a pretty good chance that Tapoco is full, I'm waiting to get a confirmation back from them on this... It's there offseason so there isn't always somebody around right now...

The other option where many people are staying is the Microtel in Robbinsville.

Here's the response I got from Tapoco Lodge:

"The only rooms we have available are on 3rd floor main lodge. There are 4 rooms (each rented individually) and 2 baths down the hall (one mens, one ladies).

The 3 rooms that haven't been rented yet have 2 twin beds. There is a sink in each room also.

The rate is $59 + 15% taxes.

If you would like to reserve you may call 1-800-822-5083 Tomorrow 9am-3pm."

I'm not sure, but that sounds like what they have left have shared baths...

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like it's the Microtel for me. My wife won't go for the shared bathrooms. That's for sure. I feel like I'm going to be stuck outside all the action though . So far from everyone else and at a regular ol' plain hotel.

Any feedback on any of the other "lodges"?

Not to worry, there will be others attending the event who will be staying there...

George:

The Microhostel has all the modern conveniences ... no spiders .... close to food, gas, car wash, supermarket .... easy access to the Cherahola Skyway ....

Besides, it will be full of MINI people .... no party cabins though!

We're getting word that some cabins may be opening up. There are cabins that are part of the timeshare area that they may be getting permission to release...

I got a reservation in a cabin at Fontana yesterday. I also got a call from Tapoco this morning offering me a reservation because of a cancellation. If you got shut out of those two options before, now might be a good time to try again. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads-up. I reserved a room at the Microtel last week but I may give Fontana a call to see if there is anything... just so I can be closer to the action .

They may still be waitlisting people at Fontana, and it doesn't hurt to get on that wait list...

Just a bit a trivia for you, Fontana had to wipe the dust off that waitlist, I'm told it's been 10 years or more since they had the need to pull it out!

Wife and drove up to Robbinsville a few weeks ago from our home in SC. Parking is very limited - really only about 10 parking spaces - they do a lot of motorcyclers business. There is an Ingles grocery store across the street with plenty of spaces however.

Spoke with 2 people today who were waitlisted at Fontana. Both were called & got cabins in the last couple of days.

Everyone doubles up a bit and squishes in. They are MINIs after all.
Each place has its own advantages and some regulars at each. I spent the last two years at the Microtel and the drive over to Fontana or Tapoco is fun.

Seeking a roomie...buddy bailed out

I have a room reserved at Fontana, from 5/5 thru 5/8. Two beds...one for me, and one for someone who might want to share expenses. $30 per night...all 3 nights or partial. Please PM me if interested.

Thanks!
Jeff

We have stayed at the Microtel the last two years. It is clean and close enough to everything. There has always been enough parking. I just canceled one of the rooms we had for this year. Some friends of ours are not going to be able to attend.

I'm staying in the Andrews Valley Inn in Andrews, NC. It's about 20 miles from Robbinsville, and looks like a nice place. http://andrewsvalleyinn.com/
