My Son’s 2014 R60 has 81k miles on it and the maintenance that’s been completed outside routine is having to have the oil filter housing replaced but now the rear main seal has developed a tiny leak that will be resolved soon. Other than that the valve cover gasket, timing chain and guides were replaced recently as preventative measures. Other than that, it’s dropped on HR Springs and the Powerstop brake rotor and pads kits were just done too. Purchased used with 44k miles on it then and previous owner took good care of it but originally was a Miami car and salt air content tend to wear rubber seals sooner as we’ve learned. Other than that he loves it an takes good care of it while he’s in college.
My 2016 CMS All4 S has 115K on it.
I have replaced the Battery, Thermostat, Alternator, Waterpump, PVC Diaphragm, are the only real things I "HAD" to fix outside of basic maintenance like Oil/Brakes, I have done much more for fun/looks. I do expect to do the Clutch and Flywheel this or next year. I love the car, its been very reliable is comparison to my R56.
My 2016 S has had very little done to it. Routine maintenance. Battery. Tires. Brakes. Oil changes etc. At some point early in its life it had a sensor replaced, but I don’t recall which one and it was under warranty. It’s been relatively trouble free for a 9.5 year old car. I bought it new and it has 163,000km on it.

if anything happens to the car, please sell me the side skirts and rear lip please!

I am new to MINI ownership having bought my 2014 MINI Countryman Cooper S last December. Had just over 136k miles on it 😦 and was a decent price. Was very well cared for according to the CarFax Report and also the independent shop I took it to since taking delivery. Immediate maintenance requirement was the serpentine belt which was badly cracked, and which was replaced along with the accessory belt tensioner and belt idler friction wheel. There are other less urgent maintenance items to get done but overall, nothing unexpected for a car with this many miles on it. As a car from the southern US its body is in excellent shape (no rust). Compared to the aesthetics of some of the cars on this forum this one is plain, and I intend keeping it stock as I am not looking for a money pit. 😉
Head Gasket. Upon closer look at the first part, it's a full set of 16 valve stem seals. Maybe the "fix" was to reseal the head and the head gasket was just a consumable. Here is what the MINI Dealer replaced:

I have a 2012 S All4 I picked up in 2022 for too much money due to used car options at the time locally, but the thing has been the most fun car I've ever driven... when I could drive it. I bought it with 180,000km (112k miles) and I used it for a lot of highway driving to start and then back to city and it's up to 234000km (140k miles).
In the beginning it needed all 4 wheel bearings, a fuel pump eventually and then the plugs and coils due to misfiring. I had to replace the evap sensor and then normal bumpy road items like ball joints, end links and tie rod ends. I've done brakes and refinished the wheels due to curb rash by the previous owner. I consider all this normal wear and tear.
Since then, it borked itself in 2024 when the clutch fork seemed to decide it prefered teh afterlife and snapped in half. It sat for more than a bit due to other priorities because I knew if I'm going in that deep for the clutch fork it was time to do some other maintenance too. So this November I started what was supposed to be a big but relatively quick project which spun out and I'm still working on it, in the snow but hoping to get the front end back on this weekend. But here's what's ended up on my list....
clutch fork
clutch and flywheel
slave cylinder
rear seal
front seal
timing chain kit
vanos sensors
new valve cover and gasket (mine was leaking)
oil pan
water pump
drive belt
then I broke the tensioner, so a new tensioner. Also noticed the alternator was seized and so was the AC compressor... so new ones of those and tosed in a new condensor as well.
the transmission fill plug wasn't coming out so I had to get nasty with it, so new one of those too... new axle nuts too. Also noticed I had a broken rear shock coil, so new set of those. New filters and fluids for every wet part of the car but that's all normal maintenance, just all done at once.
All in all, the extra stuff like the alternator and AC components failing while sitting worked out because they were much easier to service with the front end off but holy did not need those added to my list.
Also, when pulling the tranismission only out to get the fill plug sorted, putting the transmission back I broke the aux coolant pump for the turbo - so that was unexpected but relatively cheap and new one will be here Thursday in time for my weekend of putting this back together.

Thanks so much! Appreciate it!! I got myself a fancy beer for when I was done and really thought I'd have drank it in November but here we are. So maybe by next weekend I can have it. I suspect I won't get to the rear shocks this weekend or replacing my flex pipe but it's getting so close!

Thanks for the amusing post. Seems like you are breaking stuff as you go along. 😊 Good luck for a clean break-free finish. Kudos to you for doing this outside in winter in the snow.

Haha thanks! And happy to provide some entertainment. I intend to compile my misadventures into its own post later on so have a beer on hand and ready for a riot of a read 😆.. I also owe RockAuto and ECS the story too.
I recently slid off the road the previous weekend and thank God for the amount of snow we had. The car slid up on top of a boulder...saving the car from being completely destroyed. I had to walk 2 miles in the freezing rain wearing just a hoodie which wasnt great when its 18°F back to my mother's house at midnight.
I lost a foglight, headlight washer covers broke off, torn apart the JCW lip, 5" hole in the windshield where a tree branch nearly impaled me, a-pillar cracked in half, front right inner fender torn out, and ripped off the wiring/plug for the AC.
After I had the windshield replaced this saturday, I was told my car was leaking oil. It looked like oil was pissing oil between where the turbo bolts to the manifold. My forge BOV wasnt making noise so I assumed that the turbo seals went. After spending 5 hours reolacing the turbo...it was still leaking. Looking more closely, the oil feed line was the cause, but there wasnt any clear reason - no pinch, no tear, no hotspot on the braided line...so I teplaced it as well...
I just got the car back together...about a grand lighter in the wallet...thank you winter.

I used to live in VERMONT lots of road salt, rusty cars everywhere.

By the way, I don’t think the oil feed line should be routed over the manifold like that…
Good catch, but isnt it over the right hand side of the manifold amd then hanging just under the manifold if routed the other direction? I have had it routed the same way on my R56 for about 3 years, but Ive never had this issue before.
I ordered a HEL heat wrap for the line, I will be rerouting it and adding the wrap.
2015 Countryman All4 JCW. Picked it up in early November 2025. Car had 108k on it and was in limp mode on way home. Ended up the wastegate actuator was missing a nut so rod was just moving independently of wastegate = no boost. Was still throwing a mismatched boost code so ended up replacing valve cover due to leaky PCV. Fixed that issue. Car still felt slow and turbo was slow to spool. Due to turbo not boosting per previous issue, I figured the cat was clogged. Replaced all this stuff and she rips now!
High energy coil packs and plugs (ECS)
Valve cover and gaskets
NM Engineering intake
NM module
Replaced all boost pipes with silicone units
TurboX diverter valve (recirc)
K04 hybrid turbo
SS Downpipe with sport cat
Aftermarket FMIC
SS oil supply line and new turbo oil drain pipe
Detroit tuned Cryo timing chain kit
Drained and replaced auto trans fluid with Mobil1 Mini spec'd fluid
Oil/filter after seafoam treatment prior to new turbo and timing chain replacement.
The timing chain was so stretched at 108k that the both vanos were throwing codes and I had to reset the adaptations. Runs like a totally different car now!
