Code reader advice?

I recently acquired a 2014 manual countryman S with 66K miles on (in frozen black metallic - matte / badge delete 🎉 ) am wondering what type of code reader to get for maintenance / repair purposes, anybody has a favorite one?

p.s. has anybody found the repair manual downloadable pdf?

Thanx in advance

you already got the manual from me, order a veepeak obdcheck ble/ble+ of Amazon, $40, and download and pay for bimmerlink, $32, and you can turn your cell phone or iPad, etc into a scanner for the mini. I have it on my iPad and iPhone and use it on a R55S and R60S all4.

I bought the Foxwell, which is very well made and fairly pricey.

And is from my experience basically a fancy looking brick. I can do a few things with it, but nothing like what guys can do with Reingold.

What 'manual' are you talking about? I bought a bentley for the earlier series which has a ton of overlap. Is this an ISTA pdf or something that you are talking about. I didn't realize I was so out of it.

Wink Well that's a universe unto itself....

Reingold is slang for a file within the ISTA system used by BMW dealers. It has a Mini specific component. It is a fully comprehensive software package that allows EVERYTHING from a service standpoint, including testing, torque specs, procedures, activation of modules, testing of modules and motors...resets. Everything. Except for tuning.

There are pirated copies out there. Depending on your laptop hardware it can be difficult to load, not that I would know of course. You can read the forums about it. A lot of info out there. People get sensitive about talking a bunch about it on those forums. You'll see someone ask a question and the answer always seems to be "PM sent". BMW doesn't want you to put air in your tires or check your oil. Cars are complex things.

Bring your vehicle to the dealer when the windshield fluid gets low. Your safety could be impacted should the windscreen become covered with dirt and your authorized technician is the best source to ensure things like BMW spec'd washer fluid is at the appropriate level and function.

You could also pick up the Bentley (I have a 2014 S ALL 4). I got "MINI Cooper Service Manual 2007-2013 (covers R55, R56, R57...NOT R60), but it's pretty damn good for the money. Mini isn't going to redesign anything they don't have to and so as I mentioned there is going to be some overlap. Worth the $60 or so I think I paid.
