How to open the hatch w a dead battery?

The battery is dead, and the quick start battery is in the lower boot. My daughter is stranded and doesn't want to lower the back seats, unload the boot through the back doors and get to the lower trunk that way. Is there an alternative?

Probably a bit late now, but there's an emergency pull ring under the back seat cushion of all R53 cars after about October 2002.

But this is a Countryman Forum, R60 specifically. Not much like an R53 at all. I’ve read about the R53 underseat pull handle boot release. I’ve looked in my manual and searched my car. I have found no such release in an R60. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
