2012 Countryman S All4 in 🌶 Red, 120k miles. First day in forever without rain here in TN so I decided to wash the Mini. I noticed at the top of the windshield on both left and right sides that it appears the clearcoat is peeling 😔. She’s been babied, garaged, and well cared for, so I’m disappointed to say the least. Not sure what I’m going to do about it, anyone else had this happen to their R60?
I've only had it happen to my 23 year old Jeep that sits outside all the time, including wintertime. Eventually, clearcoat will begin to break down, but on a car that's only 6 years or so old?.....troubling! I'd make an appointment with a reputable body & paint shop asap to get some ideas as how to repair or respray. Catching it early certainly will make solving the problem less expensive I'd think. Love the look of your CMS by the way!
I've done some auto painting and IME the most common cause of this sort of clear delamination is a repaint due to damage.To have repaint clear start to fail at 5 years is not unusual IME.
BTW did you know that a car CAN be damaged in transit, and repaired, and the dealer is NOT required to disclose this? There is a maximum percentage of value that the damage can involve but having something repainted at the 'arrival center' is not unusual ....
Delamination is not easily cured but if not dealt with will only get worse. Among the problems is that the "base" below the clear ... the part with color is very weak alone ... it needs the clear for strength and protection ....
You probably want to talk to a good paint shop . ..
i'd imagine this should be covered under Mini's paint warranty, assuming the car was never in an accident or repainted up there. Call your local dealership and ask.
Another possible cause of clear coat failure is a previous owner thinned out the clearcoat by buffing. That could be why it is on the corners, as they get ground down quickly.

Anything repaired at port still shows internally and dealers can see it and customers can request that info too.
This sucks, but yes, the paint warranty is long gone :(
