Rear seat release lever

The release lever for my rear bench seat is broken. It’s a little plastic piece with a fabric strap attached to it. Mini only sells the plastic piece with an entire seat frame for $1000. Basically my middle seat is stuck upright with no way to lay forward. Has anyone found a suitable fix? Right now seems like my only option is to design a new piece in a cad program and 3D print one?

Plastic weld, not sure if it would hold up to the stress. Salvage yard? We also have one who has a thread on nam with parts requests.

Plastic is pretty thin and missing a big chunk. Also the leather has to be pulled back from the seat so it’s something I only want to do once. Looks like nobody makes an aftermarket part.

As Minnie said, a salvage yard is your best bet.

LKQ has many locations in Cali:
https://www.lkqpickyourpart.com/locations

They have online inventory so you can check what they have - click location -go to store - vehicle inventory.

The part you're looking for would probably be something like $5 or maybe even less.

I collect many little bits at the breakers for my R53 and have started hoarding a small stockpile exactly for situations like the one you're having, sometimes it's just the small things which can be so frustrating, so it's good to have spares on hand.

I travel and drive for work so I visit many locations throughout the southeast --- don't see too many R60's but they do pop up on occasion, just last week when I was down in Savannah Ga. at the LKQ they had one which I sat in and snapped a pic, along with a cool little lizard who was just chillin' in the sun...

It had a pretty severe frontal impact.

Well, what do you expect when a car is driven by a lizard? That reptile is lucky to be alive.

I hope the human occupants were as lucky.

I designed the part in cad and sent it to an online 3D printing company. Waiting to see how it comes out.

How did that 3D print work out? I have same exact problem. Did you print in plastic or metal cast? Would you be willing to share drawing file or STL?

This very old thread is about the only thing I can find about this problem, which I also have. Bought a '13 Countryman with a broken lever.
I will probably fashion a piece of metal with a lever arm on it to fit in the hole where the plastic piece used to be. It seems to have a torx shape, so a 1/2" or so flat piece would fit in and rotate the mechanism.

Here's my solution. Mock if you will, but it didn't cost $1000:

Yep this part is just the nylon strap and rivet. Does not have that gear part. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=52_3703
