Roof Rack Basket or Cargo Box

I have a Mini Cooper S Countryman All4, has the original Roof Racks installed. Looking to get a basket or a Cargo Box for travelling. who has a basket or a cargo box installed? what model do you have? do you like it? I am afraid to buy one on line and it won't fit my car. suggestions please....Thank you

Roof box

It all depends on what you want to carry.

I personally have a thule pulse alpine for carrying skis. The alpine boxes tend to be a little longer and flatter. Depending how large of a box you get you might want to get a shortened antenna, there are some 3” carbon fiber ones available if you look around.

Thanks for the reply...I recently purchased a spare tire...and the real reason I want a basket or a cargo box is... I am a wedding photographer and would like to start driving my countryman on some of the weddings, however, I feel more comfortable having a spare tire with me on a wedding just in case, run flats or not, thought I will put my equipment in the back and the spare tire on the top using either a basket or a cargo box.

Roof box

A spare tire isn’t that big, you could put it in a box if you want or just strap it to a roof rack. It’s mostly up to what you prefer the look of.

i have a rhino rack on my '12. i don't use it for cargo very much but it makes it easy to find in crowded parking lots.

painted stripes on it because all things mini should be striped.

that looks like a nice roof box! This might be a long shot but.. I’m looking to put my spare tire up there (ditched rf last year), do you think it’ll fit? It’s one of those from detroit tuned that fit inside our boot. Also, how many miles on your mini? Any major mechanical issues? I’m debating whether or not to extend warranty, mine is a ‘16 with around 32k

I think if you are looking at throwing a spare tire up there, a roof basket would be easier to get the wheel in and out of. The roof boxes look nice, but limit what you can and can't use them for.

I prefer the Rola basket...very versatile and easily removed...have a waterproof bag to keep things dry that need to be dry...will also be used to carry spare once I wear these stupid run-flats down...

i'm pretty sure i bought it on the net somewhere right after i got the car and its still in great shape. i gathered photos of any mini with a box i could find before i decided on the rhino, seemed to have the best lines to me. for as often as you'd need access to a spare i wouldnt have any problems throwing one up there. if you're interested i can measure the interior to see how wide it is and if it'd fir your spare.

I will go the roof basket way.. got an old Yakima basket from my sister’s civic. Now I’m just waiting for the mighty mounts to get here so I can install the basket on my factory bars.
