Front strut replacement

Has anyone replaced front struts do to wear ? I'm at 95K and Dealer says one of the strut mounts is cracked and recommends replace the whole strut. Seems odd that you wouldn't replace in pairs. I'm wondering if they need to be replaced at all.

Both or none would be correct. At 95K probably replacement won't hurt you other than the wallet. Probably a lot cheaper at someone other than the dealer.

You can do just the strut mount itself. They crack. The struts are usually fine unless you see leaks or damage as the top of the strut near the seal to the rod. Also, a way to tell is if the front is too bouncy then the struts are shot. Replace them in pairs.

Strut mount itself is shared with the R56- R61 MINI

Hi guys, noticed my 2015 R60 has cracks in the rubber of the front top strut mount. Anyone have a video or step by step guide on how to replace it please?

You are just going to do to the top mount.

thank you very much for the thread. It’s very useful. Just a question, do I have to remove the whole strut to remove the top mount or can I do that without removing the strut?

Its easier to do the whole strut, you could drop it out and then try to wiggle the plate up their with the spring compressed with a tool but it would be a pain
