Exclamation Save the Wave

Hi Countryfolk!

How many waves do you usually receive back from other Countrymans driving around? I seem to get about 60% of waves in return from Countryman owners and about 25-40% of all other MINIs.

As most of you know, it's pretty aggravating not getting a wave in return LOL!

All the best,
Kyle

(Also make sure to come join our Countryman family on Facebook www.cmonfb.com)

PS any sort of acknowledgement works... flashing headlights, a little horn tap, but not the middle finger

I get roughly about 0% wave backs. I still wave though.

I don't get too many that wave back in Albuquerque but it always puts a smile on my face when they do. I'd guess around 15%. Most MINI drivers these days seem to be less aware of other MINIs than when they first came out.

I am guilty I stopped waving first due to lack of wave backs. I guess it's time to start the wave again. I always wave back

I can't comment on the Countryman, cuz it's been...a week. But in 5+ years in the Clubman, probably 20%. There was a gal who owned a PW/B Clubman S who drove to work the same time and road as me, who'd pass (going the same direction) and not wave. Sheesh.

Hey Kyle,

I would say maybe 25% wave back..we always give the wave..I find it's mostly very young people who don't wave back-kids today know nothing about brand loyalty!

I also wonder if I get few waves back due to it being an R60. We all know how the rest of the Mini nation feels about us

Approaching third week of ownership, SO far 0 waves or wave backs. Was there some secret way I am supposed to wave?

I usually flash when I see an approaching MINI then wave when they get close enough to make eye contact.
When in my R50 I'd say its 60% response, in my wife's R60 it drops to about 20%, I get a lot of confused looks from non R60 owners, it seems they are not geared to re-acting to a Countryman !

I am in the same boat as you. I drive the same road at the same time and pass the same hardtop on the way to work, never get a wave back. Then I leave work and pass the same hardtop and nothing. I eventually stopped waving at that hardtop after about a year of nothing in return.

Average return wave approximately 20%.

I always wave and I'm probably >50% on the wave backs from all MINI's.

And I don't get aggravated about it. For years, when running or cycling I have waved to cars on the road and any walkers & other runners and always get a wave back (I live in rural MD and did this when I lived in NH too).

Then, when in Boulder, CO on a business trip I went for an evening run--I waved at the first few runners I passed and they completely ignored me! By the end of my run I passed SOOO many runners that I got it--it's too much to wave every time for some folks.

I figure it's like that here in the DC area--there are lots of MINI's around and after awhile it's just too much to wave every time.

I always wave to other MINI drivers but probably only get a return wave about 20% of the time. I try not to flash lights at oncoming MINI's cuz its usually interpreted as a warning about a hidden police car up ahead.

Thanks to 2 in a row this past Saturday, one being a fellow countryman, after 1 month ownership I can now claim 2 wave backs.

I'm still waiting to receive my countryman, I probably still have a 5 or 6 week wait, but I always the urge to wave at Minis when they drive past me. They'd probably wonder why that crazy lady in a beat up Mitsubishi is waving at them....

I have officially given up on waving. I thought a mini convertible was waving one time so I was just about the wave to them as well when it turned out he was just throwing garbage out the back of the car.

I have given up on waving a few years ago. I still notice them and watch them because Mini's are fun to look at and if a hand goes up, so does mine but have only seen a few waves in the 4 years I've owned Mini's. And if I see one on the highway I try to get closer to check it out and wave, but usually the other driver never even looks as if they do not even notice another car... I did have one wave in my wife's CM in Minneapolis a Green Roadster flew by and the driver waved when we were stuck in traffic so we waved back!

Agreed. I try to wave as well. After a month in the CTM, I do find that a lot of (normal sized) MINI drivers still have a kinda "WTF is that?" reaction to the bigMINI.

I got a very enthusiastic wave from a fellow countryman the first day I had the car. Since then NOTHING. It's been nearly 4 months....a few stairs, as in "why is that guy waiving at me?" But nothing else...sad.
