Front Pad Reset

Just had my 2013-22k miles serviced and I needed front pads. They had to do some kinda reset that took 4 hrs. My wife picked up the car so I didn't have a chance to ask the SA- Can someone clue me in on what the 4 hr reset was....

Also for anyone that didn't know - when you start the car look at your speedometer the first numbers you see are the number of miles to your next service- who knew....

Okay about that reset done by the dealer? Thanks in advance

Well when MINI was making the vehicles condition based service counter it was miscalculated for the brake wear. Vehicles would say they are due for front brakes(or rear) but actually have plenty left. Technicians then must reprogram the entire vehicle to updated the condition based service counter(Usually takes 3 to 4 hours). Then the tech has to put the correct brake pad lining measurement in the vehicles computer through their diagnostic equipment. Hopefully this makes sense to you.

Perfect sense and huge Thanks for your response. Is this a 1 time occurrence or need to be done at all brake replacements?

No problem. It only needs to be done once to correct the miscalibration. Now your service indicator should be accurate for the most part.

Just had this done as well. Took 3 hours to reset the system. I have 11,000 miles and it said I needed new brakes, which I didn't. All is fine now.

This service just popped up and said I need to service the front pads. I'm just at 29,000km (18,000 miles). I hope I don't need them replaced.

Wow that is kinda low. I got mine done around the 28,000 mark (front pads only) he said the rear pads would probably need it at about 32-34k.

Thanks for the info, Tylerlanger1. Is this something that the dealer would do prior to getting an erroneous "service needed" alert?
