R60 Exhaust - Stripped Down
Exhaust - Stripped Down
I have a 2013 Mini Countryman All 4 S.
Here are the steps of what I did to save anyone the trouble of doing it this way because I have finally reached a point where I'm satisfied.
1. Resonator removed off of stock exhaust: While this mod made a pretty noticeable difference on my MK6 GTI, it did absolutely NOTHING as far as increasing the sound on my CM.
2. Installed the NM Engineering Hi Flow Intake and a Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust: While the intake sounds AWESOME and really brought out the "blow-off" sound without any actual blow-off valve or diverter, the Magnaflow exhaust barely made a difference. I was pretty shocked because I did my research, looked at Youtube videos, and then chose that exhaust and in my opinion, it was NOT worth it.
3. Deleted the 2nd Cat: This one was not easy as I was not able to find any shops that would do this. I literally called every shop in my area from the high class ones, to the backyard barely speaking English ones and still, nothing. FINALLY, I found a shop that did it for me and this definitely increased the sound but on a 1-10 scale, if 1 is with no modification, 3 was with just the Magnaflow exhaust + no resonator, 5 is what I got when I removed the 2nd cat.
4. Deleted the muffler entirely: Kinda sucks that it came to this because I spent $800 on a cat back exhaust system that I now am only using the pipe and tips from however, the sound is EXACTLY what I want it to be. Even when I dropped it off for the guy to do it, he warned me that it probably won't sound good, will be too loud, and will have a lot of drone. Then when I went to pick it up, he said, "i was surprised at how good this sounds". So I would put the sound at an 8 now.
Ultimately, once there is a reliable tune for the 2013 models, then I'll get an Akrapovic down pipe, tune it, and probably put the muffler back on since at that point, it will be too loud and my neighbors will hate me.
Hopefully, this will save any of you who are in the same position I'm in.
Good luck finding a place that will remove that 2nd cat though, well, if you live in California that is.

Thanks for the info. I have a 2014 JCW Countryman and the one thing that bugs me is the exhaust sound or lack there of. Can you post some videos of the sound outside the car ad inside under normal driving.
Thanks again,
Mark

Absolutely. I'll post multiple videos later today.
Here is a video of a cold start.
Once the car warms up the sound obviously reduces but not by a lot.

Here's a video I took from in the car with the windows up.
The sound is really quite mild from inside and barely any drone. Unfortunately, I'm unable to really get on it because I'm driving on the street, will try and post a video on the freeway later.
