R60 Countryman suddenly dead... battery?
Countryman suddenly dead... battery?
I couldn't start my Countryman today, everything was dead, just clicks (no cranking). I haven't had any trouble starting it at all, no warning signs.
I eventually got it jumped (took a while).
Any thoughts? I'm assuming it's a battery, but after just 50,000 miles thats pretty bad.
I just want to get it running again so I can get rid of it.
Thanks,
RT4

I agree 50k miles is short for a dead battery, and living in San Antonio, you don't have brutal winters are shorten battery life.
Is there any possibility you had something recently installed like a stereo upgrade, car alarm, remote start etc, that might not be wired properly and is draining the battery?

It's a totally stock 2011... no radio, lights, etc.
I'm tired of the car.... rattles, horrible seat fabric, horrible radio, doesn't handle well, etc. Its time for something new. Probably the lowest quality vehicle I've owned, and I've only owned Chryslers. Really.

Yea, the first year of a new model from ANY manufacturer seems to be historically inconsistent quality-wise....some are perfect and others are a nightmare..

AGM batteries HATE heat.. Mini uses them mainly for size constraints.. But they are not well suited (yet) in that size and configuration in hot climates.
This is why automakers try to insulate the battery from heat in the bay with shields and blankets... Or relocate them away from the bay.
I've been in the auto industry for 16 years, 8 of them in manufacturing, so I was expecting some manufacturing "issues" when buying the first year of a platform... but this goes well beyond that. The car is horribly designed, from the cup holders to the center rail to the lack of drip rails on the roof to the seat fabric. Add to that the manufacturing issues like rattles, fit and finish, etc., AND the dealer is the worst I've ever dealt with... I just haven't had a single positive experience with it. The kicker was when I took it in for service at 39,000 miles (3,000 miles after they had done "everything") and they told me it needed $2,000 of maintenance. Insane. So once I figure out how to get that stupid battery out of it's nest in the firewall, it's going to Carmax....hopefully the new battery will fix the issue.
