I want to try and make my own phone holder for the rail, does anyone know if I can find a blank mounting plate? Or has anyone seperated a cupholder from the mounting plate? Looks like it can be done but don't want trash it if it work.

You can just press a button to separate accessories from the rail mount. Extra rail mounts can be ordered through the dealer or online at outmotoring, minimania, waymotorworks, etc

 

What i mean is the flat plate with the 4 male posts on the corners that mates to the base inside the rail. I actually want to find that empty flat plate without an accessory attached to it so i can attach my own if that makes sense.

Do you have the sunglass holder? It has a backing plate that can be separated.

 

Oh, gotcha. I don't think I've ever seen any for sale as just that piece. I think there was a thread on here once where someone reused the base from the included phone holder because it's pretty crummy from the factory.

I don't recall the snapin for the sunglass case being any different those for the cup holders, but I may be mistaken. I'll check in the morning. In my gallery is a modified i phone holder using the s/g holder ....until the cradle became available.

 

I have an Mini iPhone holder i don't use which fits in the rail. I bet this could be modified.
