Funny how some of the simplest things make us happy and content
Does give our mini's a nice new refreshed look...along with better handling cup holders...

No, you didn't mess anything up. The "P" is lit for a considerable amount of time, it will eventually un-light. Lock the car then go out and check after a few hours, make sure you don't unlock the car or open a door just peek in the window.

For what ever reason.... While waiting for the correct console part that fits mini connected/Nav. The new black boot trim ring did not snap in correctly... It fit but not as tight as I wanted and did not want to force it. Received the correct console this week and the new trim fit like a glove.

That is strange. Maybe there is a difference for the Trim Rings besides the indentions.

Yes, my old grey ring fit the newer consoles both with and w/o Nav....
Just not the new on the old... Either of them. Strange

I ordered the new shift boot ring less the larger cup holder console and the the new ring will not fit on the older center console. The new boot ring is just slightly different to accommodate the larger cup holders. So I went online this morning and Sewell had the part I needed in stock! It should be dleivered by the end of the week.

OK I like the idea of upgrading the cup holders. This would be a nice addition. Now that you guys have upgraded and have bigger cups, do you slam your hand into the cup going into 1st and 5th?

Nope....but then again I have not increased the size of my mug..... It just holds and supports it better. I'm sure if a large enough one was there you'd certainly hit or come close to it. Same with those with the cold weather package and heated seats. More room for my mug in the larger cup holder so less pressure up against the seat warmer button...again put a large enough cup in either version of the holders and there will be some space issues.
That's my take on it so far...I'm very satisfied!

Ditto. It just works much easier--even a paper Starbucks cup is easier to insert/remove. And it holds my Kleen Kanteen water bottle beautifully (I use to rest it on the rail and the e-brake--not practical!)

Totally worth the $40.

Having a helluva time disconnecting the USB and AUX connectors. I feel like I'm going to snap something. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious...

Also, I have Connected. Is there anything extra I should know about that? How do imgo about getting the joystick and buttons out?

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I'm so excited to fix one of the biggest annoyances with my car!

The joystick and buttons are part of a unit secured to the console. Once the 3 screws are removed slowly raise the console, unplug the 2 cords to make It easier in removing the unit from the underneath the console. Re-attach the joystick unit to the new console. Also the USB/mini plug holder will snap out making it easier to remove both cables. Take your time, nothing that can't be accomplished with a little patience....

Thanks for posting this thread, community!! I finished my swap with connected last night and it's amazing at how much a less than an inch difference makes!! By far, this $50 upgrade will provide the most value with respect to all the things I've thrown money at!!

Now just need that engine tuning kit!

Thanks for the tips! Got everything set, but I'm putting everything back together and now I can't get the shifter boot secured...

Actually Mini does have/sell them... Was given one by my dealership on 2/2011, day I took delivery of my countryman and it's been used daily since.
Fit well in the old style cup holder, but was always tight up against the controls, especially the heated buns button. The newer style just gives that little extra needed wiggle room.... No bun intended..plenty of wiggle in this American's left seat!

The shifter boot will reattach to the shifter ring if you insert from the top instead of pushing up from the bottom. Also the new cup holders do work well. They are large enough to hold the largest Burger King cup.

BAM.. with the NAV

so yea the ring is different, make sure you choose the COLOR you want.. they have the black, grey with the chrome, grey, and thats it. Theres a SLIGHT different between the rings... the 2013 rings have a dip in it where bigger cups go. I dont see it being an issue if it had the order rings it in.'
EASY swap out.

Oh and i have an extra 2013 WITHOUT the nag cup holder if you want it for $20 plus $10 for shipping. or if you're in Massachusetts u can pick it up.

Its does have the two buttons and joystick, what are the part numbers or the actual parts needed. parts guy said the cup holder rings and rubber inserts come with the one part and are not separate he also had no clue this could be done... So im asking the experts,

Same part number but the last numbers are 186 instead of 185. It's mentioned in page 2 I think.

Then u have to order the ring then the inserts too.

Only difference b/w Nav and Connected-only is that the Nav app isn't available. I ordered the items below and reused my trim ring that goes around the shifter. It's only been a couple weeks, but the difference is huge!

Center Trim Panel (51-16-9-811-186)
Cup Holder Rubber Disc Inserts (51-16-9-811-184) order one for each holder (left side & right side for total of 2)
