two scrapes

Hard to believe that in the past two weeks my car has been in hit in parking lots. Once above the passenger side tail pipe, is a 4 inch long scratch on the crown of the grey plastic bumper.

Then, someone hit my Passenger side indicator light embedded in the grey plastic in front of the wheel. Scratches on the bumper and cracked lens that water has taken its toll onthe bulb.

I've had full size pick ups and suv's that more than fill parking spots and haven't had this kind of luck. Is it strange coincidence, or do people take liberty with the extra space afforded in in a mini parking spot. I am always cautious to park in the middle of the lines.

Some people are just "clueless" and just don' pay attention, I have parked on end spots as close to the curb as possible leaving the maximum space between my car and the line and returned to find a car parked over the line into my space so close I didn't try to open my door and the space on the other side of that car was open!? I was just amazed they got out without putting a ding on my car.

I have many door dings on mine. Same here, I've owned many vehicles, last was an extended cab Silverado, but my MINI takes the most hits... Side note, our neighbor recently keyed our MINI and our A3, because they THINK we reported them for abusing their child...

I'll park ours way at the far end of a parking lot only to return and find that someone parked right next to ours even though there are literally hundreds of open spaces...

I had mine for 2 weeks before some fool put 2 lovely scratches in my drivers door opening theirs. Last week someone got me in my driveway!! I came out and there was white paint on the drivers side rear end. Looks like someone turned into the driveway. The white came out with polish but there is a crease, and the red reflector in the wheel arch is crushed!(any suggestions on how to fix?)

get a little web security cam

i got a dropcam (on amazon) for 149 and 10 bucks a month for the dvr service. it works great during the day as i have it pointed out the bay window watching the cars. it works with lots of smart phones/pads like iphone and ipad, kindle fire. you will need a good light source with motion detector if you want to capture night video. night vision won't work if you have the device pointing outside from the inside window because of the night vision light reflecting off the glass. it also has two way audio which i shut off. while it won't prevent a ding or scratch...you can catch what happened to your car when it happened.

insofar as preventing door dings....it's inevitable but i do park away from the cars closest to the stores and take my wifes suv for areas im not comfortable with...her suv has body side molding.

I've had 2 door dents, one being a 4 inch vertical one within 3 weeks of picking up my car.

Just got my Coupe a week ago and today I saw a lady door ding my car. I ran outside to confront her but she was already gone. Took down her plate in case I can do something about it but I am not sure if cops/insurance would even do anything about it? Any thoughts? Is it even worth trying to do something about it?

I have a dent and three scuff marks down the side of the driver's door. Unfortunately mine were self-inflicted. My recumbent bike fell over in the garage and damaged the door.

The mini has no protection by way of strips down the side of the door to take the parking lot hits. So over time I am sure the side of car will look like the moon. At least the mini is narrower than other cars I have owned so that helps give the other person more room to open their door.

I have used the dent repair companies to remove door dings on other cars I have owned. They have done a good job on the other cars. I will go that route on the ding from the bike. I was able to remove the scuff marks from the door. The paint and metal was not damaged.

Each section of the plastic wheel arch is replaceable. the one with the light comes with the lens. Someone hit mine and I had it replaced. Not too expensive around $125 as I recall.

If the repair is above your deductible, your insurance can pay and then go after the woman for reimbursement, including your deductible.

If the damage is under your deductible, about the only thing they can do is run her tag for you. That would give you her name and address and, in most States, her insurance info.
