How long will the stock runflats last?

How long will the stock runflats last?

It's now over a year old with around 20000 miles on it.

It's roaring too loudddd! way too loud. When should I replace it? There's quite alot of thread left tho. It's just way too loudd!

Got 26000 miles before we had to get new tires. Went to non runflats! What a difference in ride and handling!

42,000 here. Definately like the S.Drives I got better than the OEM run flats.

it would be nice to include the brand, model and size when referencing how long your tires lasted

i expect my dads pirelli p7 cinturato 205/55R17 all seasons to last longer than my pirelli p7 cinturato 225/45R18 summer tires even through they are both pirelli p7s

I've had four new MINI's and my run flats lasted about 2,000 miles on each of them before I trashed them for non-run flat REAL tires. Better ride, better handling, less weight.

Mine's 225/45/18 dunlop sport duelers I believe... The harshness, I can deal with it, but the roaring tyre noise is killing me!

So if you replaced the run flats, what do you do if you get a flat tire?? Do you have a spare in the boot?

Unfortunately, it's a catch 22. If you live in an area like DC, there's a good chance you'll be replacing them frequently. The CM may have 20K miles on it, but the tires keep going back to 0. Zaftig is low milage and carefully driven. His original RFs will, most likely, be turned in with him. I've mentioned my SO and his BMW - he's replaced about 9 tires in just over a year of ownership. Luckily, we bought the insurance.

I am considering the same thing. What do you do for a spare?

I Just carry a can of fix a flat. If you get a flat in a runflat you have to buy a new tire, if you get one on a normal tire you can replace it for 1/3 of the price of a runflat and repair it for 1/8. Runflats are a waste of money and handling. My runflats lasted about 16000 miles.

update:

when i rotated my tires/wheels at about 4800 miles, i had 7/32 tread depth on all 4 tires, that is i wore off 3/32 in 4800 miles ... at this rate of wear, i don't think i will get much over 10k miles as i my experience, tires wear faster as the tread gets thinner

I have what I consider a really dumb question ... I don't understand the concept of "wheels" and "rims." (I'm old enough to remember hubcaps!) I am leasing my CM for three years. If I switch out my runflats for non-runflats, can I continue to use the wheels/rims (is there a difference?) that came with the car? I'm thinking I'd put the runflats back on when it's time to turn in the lease. I'd love to have a more comfortable ride, plus I want to put snow tires on since I don't have ALL4.

Thanks in advance for not making fun of my ignorance!

No special rim (wheel) needed for run flat tires, you can put whatever you want on them all seasons, snows, whatever.

Will the fix-a-flat goop ruin the rim?

No, it's a latex product and is safe, but is meant to be only a temporary fix until you can get the tire repaired.

As a courtesy it's nice to let the tire shop know, as it's messy when they break the tire down for repair, (white milky latex comes out, gets all over their tire machine).

For those of you who replaced your run flats, what did you do with them? Were you able to sell them? I have 3K miles on mine and I would love to replace them but I hate to just dump them!
