ABS warning light

Was happily driving along in the CM this morning, doing no more than 50km/hr and a warning light came on. The red one with the exclamation mark and this was followed by the ABS warning. In the smaller lights the traction control and warnings were lit up. I stopped and restarted the car and they went away, but reappeared after a few minutes. Drove prudently and then called Mini when I got home.

We are supposed to take it into service tomorrow.

Has anyone dealt with an issue like this before? We live a fair ways from the dealer and are wondering what issues it could be.

Last week, while driving, I had the warning lights start cycling through all warnings (ABS/Seatbelt/needs service/low tire, out of fuel, etc) the tach, odometer, some windows, and the A/C also did not work. It ended up being towed in to mini dealer as the lights wouldn't turn off either. Turned out to be a bad battery cell.

Seemed odd, as it would start, but has been fine since. Seems a bit worse than your issue but I thought I'd mention it since you seemed to also have multiple warnings. The small lights were lit on mine as well.

I had a very similar problem, but in my Roadster - had to call Roadside Assistance and they flat-bedded it to my dealer 160 miles away. Ended up being a faulty switch in the steering column. Had to order the part from Germany - took about 3 weeks to finally get it back, but all is well now.

I don't know what might have caused it but please let us know when you find out. Also, it's always helpful to others to state what year your vehicle is and how many miles it has. Best of luck getting it fixed.

The year you can see in my footer, 2011,, it has 34,000km's on it.

Will definitely update with the diagnosis.

Forward hubby that this might not be a simple fix. But crossing my fingers. Thanks all for your innput.

Hubby took the cm in yesterday and when he collected it last night no service agent was there. On the paper it simply says that they topped up the brake fluid.

No idea what that really means. Can a car lose brake fluid without there being some kind of issue?

It's not likely that you "lost" any brake fluid. Given the mileage on your car, it's most likely you needed brake fluid simply because the level in your brake fluid tank declined as your brake pads have worn. Perfectly normal, except if the level was low enough to turn on the ABS light, it's likely your brake fluid level has never been topped off since your car was brand new. Assuming you had your oil changed by an authorized dealer, I'm fairly certain that what Mini calls an "oil service" includes checking and topping off all fluids, including the brake fluid. Of course you could also have a leak, but that's not likely. Assuming your oil change(s) were done at the dealer, unless you have a leak I would bet that they were in a rush and forgot to top off your brake fluid, perhaps more than once. Of course that would be very hard to prove.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I've got a question for the OP.

My wife drives the CM and lately the exact same scenario just occurred. Car has 58,000km and it's a 2012. Since the brake fluid has been topped up did that in fact solve the issue?

Thanks in advanced.

It seems that was the solution. Did you top it off?

The car just exhibited the condition last night, I have not been able to get it to the shop and have it topped up yet. I will update this myself when the issue is addressed and tested.
