Broken and busted

I had a wreck last Thursday, spent 4 days in the hospital. Five broken ribs, broken sternum, spinal fractures from T8 down to L's. The wife has a sliced index finger from something and is bruised badly in many spots.
Enough about us.
The wreck was from 40 mph to impact in a millisecond. Very violent, very loud. Sounded like the VC were pounding rockets at me again.
I am still waiting to find out if the Mini is totaled, I hope so. The lady was ticketed and unhurt. She crossed 6 lanes of traffic before she got to my lane, the the two lanes next to me were at a crawl, she was headed to a shopping center and was t-boned for her trouble.
The Countryman is one tough car. All 7 airbags deployed. Nothing came into the cabin. It appears the frame is bent, the passengers side was pried open by 4 people, drivers side barely opened. The sunroof popped open and will not close. Front is mashed in.

The good news is if you are in a wreck the mini will take care of you.
The bad news, never volunteer to test out the above theory.
And yes, I am sticking with a Mini Countryman if at all possible.

Bruce

Ouch! I wish you speedy recovery.

By the sounds of it you will be shopping for a new CM. With 7 airbags deployed, fluids leaking (I assume) and doors that don't open, it should be totalled.

Soooo sorry to hear. I hope you both make a full recovery. Keep us updated on the insurance process. I doubt many CMs have come across this much damage yet.

Been there twice myself, unfortunately.

I am so sorry that you were in such a horrific crash.
Thankfully you and your wife are going to be OK.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and I hope a brand new Countryman as well.

Your CM sacrificed herself for you. It would be horrific to contemplate how you and your wife would have fared in a lesser vehicle. Many of us have been at the blunt end of another driver's mistakes, and expose ourselves to the same every day. Though your injuries were serious, I'm glad you were able to tell us about them and remind us not to be complacent.

Best of recovery to both of you.

It appears the CMs are sturdy like the other MINIs, this is great. Sorry for your troubles, I do hope the lady gets justice served.

Thank Goodness you both survived the crash. Losing your MINI sucks but to keep it in perspective, I am currently handling 3 different auto claims involving fatalities. Among the deceased are a 21 year old and a third trimester unborn baby.

Cars... yes, even MINIs, are replaceable. You are not.

May you recover swiftly--but may justice be swifter. People are driving around without taking it seriously. I feel like I dodge a bullet several times a month. I am so sorry your life has been so disrupted--but so glad you and your wife lived to tell about it!

Sorry to hear about your accident, good luck in your recovery!

When/if you are able, please post photos of your CM, it would be interesting to see how well it held up.

As one who has already tested his CM4 in a collision, I agree that the vehicle is very sturdy - a valuable feature. I still cringe every time someone slams the hatch - the sound brings back memories.

The best of luck to you both with your recovery.

Update

Thank you one and all for all of the kind thoughts and remarks.
The Mini is officially totaled as of this morning.
For those wanting pictures, my wife has a couple on her phone that I will try to upload in the next few days.
In the meantime, on with medical part.
It will be a couple of months before we get the new car. I may order or just get one off the lot, we will see.
Thanks again,
Bruce
