R60 Holy Bluetooth Incompatibility, Batman!
Holy Bluetooth Incompatibility, Batman!
Just got my R60 S All4 yesterday. I have the Tech/Connected package. I have two phones, one is the Blackberry Torch 9810 (Platform 5.0.0.736), the other is an Android (Motorola Atrix). Blackberry is for work, Android is for personal. I use the BB 99% of the time, so having the BB paired up to my car is more important than anything.
I picked up my car yesterday, paired the BB to the R60. Got the Bluetooth to connect for the hands free operation, office, and audio. I didn't make any calls there, just connected it. I didn't make any calls when I left there to go back to work. I jump in my car to go home, and I make a call, after about a minute, the connection drops, and my phone freezes for a good 5 minutes. I reset it. Turns back on. on my BB screen, the phone keeps popping up the dialog box every 10 seconds that the phone is connected to the car. At that point, the phone is extremely lagging, it takes 30-45 seconds from when I tap an app on the screen to when the phone responds. I reset the phone again. Turns back on, same connection notice on and off on the display. Turn off the bluetooth, and the phone behaves normal. I reconnect it, make another phone call, and again, after about a minute, the phone/car drops the connection, and the phone is stuck frozen. Reset it again. I delete the phone out of the car's BT, and delete the car out of the phone's BT. I connect my Atrix, connects no problem. Had a 5 minute conversation, no lagging in the phone, no problems, no nothing. I reconnect the BB again, and it seems to be stable. At this point i'm in my office parking lot, and get out of the car to my office.
I run out to grab a bite for lunch, phone connects. I didn't make a call, so I don't know if it worked. I get back into my car to go back to work, and the car doesn't connect to the phone. I make the car connect to the BB. Phone starts to get all laggy again, making it next to impossible to do anything on the phone. Get back to work, back to my desk, and the phone is back to normal.
I use the BT on my BB every day and have never experienced anything like this before. I have my BB set up to connect to my office headset, my wife's car, my Sunday car, my Jawbone when I'm not in my car, and even had it connected in my R55 that I had before this car. It works perfectly fine connected to anything else except for the R60. This isn't good! I don't plan on replacing my BB with anything else any time soon. I do plan on changing the Android to an iPhone so I can at least take advantage of the Connected part of my car. This sucks!
Anyone else having issues with Blackberry devices in their R60?

Our '12 (one week old) works fine with my 9300 (phone, emails, and music), and I know my GF's 8330 works at least with the phone...not sure if she has tried emails, and she does not have any music stored on her Blackberry.
Happened again to me on my way home. Was on the phone for about 2 minutes and the car dropped the connection. Once I disconnected the Bluetooth from the car, the phone was working normally. With that said, I think I figured out why it's not working right. I have an app on the phone that locks the phone and can be unlocked with a pattern (Pattern Lock). It's set to lock after 2 minutes. I have a feeling that it's interfering with the Bluetooth. I never had a problem with any other Bluetooth connections, but I have to figure out how to disable it and see if that makes a difference.
Sucks.
Sucks.

I KNOW THAT YOU NEED AN IPHONE FOR THE FULL EXPERIENCE! But that's not what I am talking about right now!
If you didn't read the last paragraph of the first post:
I will change to an iPhone when I can upgrade my phone. But for now, I'm not asking for anyone to be stating the obvious, I'm looking to discuss a Blackberry/Bluetooth/R60 issue. Now can we stay on topic please?
The bottom line, is that I will get an iPhone in due time. It will not be replacing my Blackberry. I rely very heavily on my BB for work, so as frustrating as it might be at times, I'm not getting rid of the BB anytime soon.

I can't comment on Blackberry devices, specifically, but the way it keeps kicking your connection out, I'm wondering...
Is there an option that you need to select in your Bluetooth pairing settings so the handsfree can automatically connect each time without further authorisation?

See, I don't need anyone telling me that an iPhone will work the best with it. I already know this! So why even give your two cents if it provides me absolutely no benefit in this thread?
Don't take me the wrong way...I'm just trying to stay on track here. It's like an owner of a Mini complaining about a problem they have in their car, and you get a response from someone like, "See, you should have bought a Honda". Does that help at all?
I'm talking about Blackberry, not iPhone. We cool?

I figured out how to disable the pattern lock app in my phone. I went into my car just before and connected. I called my office (because who else am I going to call at midnight) and started going through the prompts to waste time. At the 2:02 mark on my cell phone, it froze on me again. The car's connection stayed on for like 30 seconds after that and just dropped. It's not the Pattern Lock app. It seems like it might be the "office" part of the Bluetooth transfer that is causing the problem. I'll have to disable the transfer of contacts from my phone to the car tomorrow and see if that does anything.
Well, drove into work again this morning, and I disabled any add-on's within the configuration screen on my car. Unchecked Office, Bluetooth Audio and Images. I thought the "office" aspect would be to sync the contacts with the car, but even when I un-checked it, my phone is still transferring the contacts automatically. I managed to get a few calls out of the blackberry that lasted 5-8 minutes, but mid call and after about 2 minutes once again, the car dropped the bluetooth connection, my phone once again froze, and I had to re-start it.
If there's no hope, I may switch the sim cards between both phones, making my Android the phone I would use as the work phone, but still use the BB for what I need it for as far as e-mails and BBM. My personal phone (Android) is seldom used right now. It's really only for those times when I don't want to be bothered, and only a few people have the #. The other reason why I haven't been using it much is because I can't transfer all the contacts from the BB to the Android, so I've been doing it manually...just takes a lot of time to manually enter over 700 contacts!

The BT is working seamlessly on 5 other devices (including the R55 I just returned). Works well on my Jabra Headset at work, my wife's Cadillac, The Kenwood system in my Lotus, and my Jawbone earpiece.
Since you have two phones, did you try your other phone? Maybe you did and I missed that part in the write up. If the android does the same thing as the BB it would point to a problem with the car.
Yes, the Android works fine, as I mentioned. Only the BB is giving me issues.
Looks like I needed an update. I just updated my car. I also re-activated all the configured features to enable bluetooth audio, office, etc. My phone was slightly lagging, but it could be that the car was still downloading my contacts off the phone. I made a quick call and it went through, hung up, and the phone was still working like it should.
I'll have to try again in the morning and make some longer phone calls to make sure that my problem has been solved. I sure hope so!
