Stock radio

I'm hearing conflicting answers so please help: I'm ordering a 2012 countryman base, does the stock radio allow for ipod plugin? or only with the ipod/bluetooth option?
I read on NAM the the option allows you to control the ipod with steering wheel controls, but the mini manager says it has no plug in without the upgrade.
thanks for the help.

The option is actually USB / Bluetooth, and yes it is necessary for iPod/iPhone integration using the Y cable. One leg of the Y cable plugs into the USB.

Thanks for correcting. So there is no aux plug without a $500 option? I thought all cars in 2012 would have standard aux input.

Aux input is standard. You can play an iPod using just the aux, but not select music using the steering wheel or radio buttons. The USB/Bluetooth option adds a USB port.

Thanks rkw. This is the email from the sales manager
"The radio will not have an auxiliary for iPod unless you get Bluetooth/USB iPod option". What's up with that?

"auxiliary for iPod" is ambiguous and doesn't make a lot of sense. I think he just didn't know the proper terminology to use. I would call it iPod adapter or iPod integration. To reassure yourself, ask him whether an aux input jack is standard (without mentioning iPod).

Aux input and USB/BT are two totally different features. Aux input is standard on all cars for no additional cost. USB/BT is a $500 option.

So, if you do not opt for the additional USB/BT (as I did not), you will still be able to play your ipod/iphone through the aux input, you just won't be able to control it through the head unit.

The sales manager, as quoted, is giving you incorrect information.

Does anyone know if you can shuffle songs on your ipod when plugged up to the mini? I have my ipod connected but it just plays songs in alphabetical order. Kind of hard to enjoy driving when I have to change the song all the time.

Usually pressing the RND button will do it. It depends on which year MINI you have and what interface you're using. I usually just play a playlist.
