De-yolking the headlights - dimmer turn signals?

Saw a "de-yolked" CTM behind me in traffic today. Really liked the look, but when he put on his turn signal, it was significantly dimmer than OEM (this was on a bright, sunny day).

Is this just an unintended consequence of the "silver blubs," or is there a way to de-yolk and retain turn-signal brightness?

When you order a MINI with white turn signals, do those still illuminate amber, even though they look white? Or, are they just white bulbs?

When u order white turn signals the lens is clear not yellow, but the bulbs are still yellow. Some people paint their bulbs and some get silver coated bulbs. I got the silver ones and they are almost the same brightness as OEM, just a little dimmer, but look soooo much better.

I ordered my 2011 last year with the White Turn signal option, but the only thing that was different from original was it came with Clear Side Turn Signal Lenses. Bulb was orange. So i bought the Silver Bulbs for front and switched out(for the "de-yolked" look) and they burn the smae brightness of orange as the originals......

How do I go about removing the clear lens and replacing the bulb?

Thx.

Do you have to order and install clear/silver lights yourself? Of can you select non-egg yolk headlights as an additional option when you're building your mini?

i wasted money on several brands of silver bulbs "ebay and invisibulbs" before installing amber led bulbs. the silver bulbs were dim and the silver is only on the top of the bulb so you still see yellow when looking at the sides. there is a great write up/videos here in the electrical section under "switch back bulbs, dont use". the led's are very bright and no yellow at all from any angle, and they look GREAT!!! check it out before buying silver bulbs

Is there an option for "silver" bulbs and turn signals when you purchase your car - or do you have to install yourself later?

No options from the factory for silver bulbs. Just for clear side markers, that still have an amber bulbs.

I have silver bulbs that are silver all over and work great, not dim at all. They are the ones found in one of the write ups in the mod section (can't look it up right now). I would go with the LED's though, they last longer and run cooler.

Yeah, best to follow the owners manual. Very easy just access them through the panel in the wheel well. Turn the bulb a little till it loosens, pull it out and change the bulb.

Not sure why I didn't think of the manual.

Thanks for the response, I found the LED thread and will go with those.

Oh wow really? I keep designing my mini online to sent to my dealer and subbing out lights for the egg yolks seem to be an option. Are they not silver though? That seems to be what you're saying. In that case maybe I should just go with regular lights and switch them out later on.

The two factory options are standard amber lens with clear bulb, or optional clear lens with amber bulb. You can switch the bulb but not the lens. The standard lights have amber lens, and you will be stuck with the amber look forever no matter what bulb you use (unless you take apart the headlight and remove the lens altogether, as some have done).
