Pirelli vs Goodyear

I've had my All4 with Pirelli RFTs almost a month now and my only gripe was the very harsh ride/twitchy road manners . Today my cousin bought a similarly configured All4 but his came with Goodyear RFTs. Man, was I amazed. It's a completely different car. The ride is MILES better, you wouldn't believe it's the same car and the road manners are way more civilized. Now I'm very disappointed mine came with Pirellis and looks like I will pull the plug on tires soon.

Thanks for your insight. I'd like to make a change and I also have the Pirellis.

Pirelli v Goodyear

I'd only driven demo CMs with the Goodyear Eagles while I was shopping, and that's what came on mine. They're firm, but I never understood the depth of some people's hatred for the run-flats.
Now we're running Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3s for the winter. They're less noisy than the Eagle RFTs and a bit softer, but less of a comfort difference than I expected.
Many people don't love the Eagle run-flats, but they may be the best available at the moment.

Agreed mine has the Pirellis which aren't as nice as the Goodyears, then again the Goodyears aren't as good as the Bridgestones, they are amazing, it's a totally different car on the Bridgestone RFT's.

Have you sampled all three on the Countryman?

Yeah but they squeek and smell funny. After 6 months and 5k they still smell like we have been driving through cow pastures.

Plus, I hate it every time I see a mini-truck with the same tires. The Bridgestones are very popular on SUVs and small trucks. Not something I would associate as a performance tire.

How does the Bridgestone Runflat tire compare to the other 2 pirelli and goodyear tires? I have Bridgestone on mines, all I know is that it's awfully harsh.

Eh, many think either the Bridge or Goodyear are the best for ride. I would say they feel about the same, but still much better than the Pirelli (imo). I have the 18" Bridgestone Dueller RFT. Whichever you have it will be a harsh ride. RFTs are not known for their comfort.

Which would be true if the Countryman was a performance car, but it isn't.

I can see where your problem is, you get Duellers in the US whereas in Europe the Bridgestones I've seen on Countrymen are Turanza's.

attn anyone with 18" pirelli cinturato p7 rf 225/45-18s

up the pressure to 38psi as listed in the OM (you did read the OM?)

the difference is unbelievable, most of the harshness is gone, they are now very quiet, but the handling and traction are unchanged or slightly better

i let the sales manager drive my car and then the service manager drove it, they were both amazed

the sales manager has been calling customers that had complained about the pirellis to advise them of my find

yesterday, i borrowed a racing buddies tire pyrometer and my temps are +/- 2 degrees across/around all 4 tires at 38 psi

i did not measure the temps at 32psi, but i suspect they would show underinflation

The Pirelli PFT's are more of individual performance tire the wider they are the smoother the ride will be . I have a srt4 neon that I have Pirelli p4 tires on that gives out an excellent and smooth ride. Goodyears are good for the smaller with tires and for heavier driving patterns but for brand new cars with Pirellis I recommend getting a rotate and balance after 200 miles on the tires to evenly distribute and wear. We always recommend this at the shop I work at because we have gotten better feedback from customers changing from Goodyear and Bridgestone to Pirellis. It might also be good to have your alignment and camber checked after getting brand new tires so they don't wear uneven

Ditto that! Bridgestone's RFT on mine and they are a rough ride.
