Phone Mount

Hi, Does anyone use the phone mount? I can't figure out where to put it? I have the split rail and the armrest and it wont fit anywhere?

Thanks,
Nick

I'm using it with an iPhone 4 and it fits just between the E-brake handle and the front edge of the armrest. I'll try to take a picture when I'm in the car again...

I took out the small stoppers from the front of the rail and put my holder as close to the front of the rail as possible without it compromising the wire hook-up. It's the only rail accessory I have on my front rail and it's perfect for me.

The design of this is really a hinderance. It just doesn't fit, except on my workbence next to the sunglass case.

it works great with an ipod or iphone like this... my hand doesn't touch it when i pull the brake, i just have to pull up the arm rest to attach or detach the cord

Sunglass case is the only accessory I use (well beside the two cup holders in the back), goes right under the arm rest, and my Oakleys fit perfect in them.

I could get the phone holder to fit, but the iPhone does not fit in it well, so I prefer the sunglass case.

I'm using the exact position as critterz. See photos below (click to enlarge):

Holder in rail, no phone

Phone in holder, armrest up

Phone in holder, armrest down

Gave up on the phone holder. Have the sunglass coffin same as Judge, only it holds mints.

Need to note here that those of us with navigation loose about 10 inches off the front of the rail where they extend the gear shift surround and install the extra controlls. Another hindrence to the great rail design.

To Sealy's point, you can see the difference between critterz picture and the ones I posted above. My car has the joystick and extra loss of rail that Sealy is talking about, but positioning the holder BEHIND the E-brake handle is the same in both cars...

No cell phone mount for me...I DO use the glasses case as well, however I rest the iPhone inside it. Out of the way, easy connection, and if I'm running in some place i don't feel it's out in the open. Im Pretty positive when the armrest cradle is available, I'll be passing. This system works fine for me.

Same as OneTraveler, I phone fits great in sunglass holder, released the spring so cover stays open if needed & removed the rubber mat and works well with the phone in a bumper case as well. Put an opening through bottom half for better cable organization.

Mind taking a photo of your engineering work when you have a minute?

Another Solution

Here is a mod I put together that seems to belong in this thread.
It has been working great for a couple of months now.

If you have the bluetooth kit why not just put your cell phone on the armrest?

KiwiRob...Took the armrest out for a while as I was looking to possibly move the actual base for the cradle out of the armrest and remounting it. Yes your right with the bloothooth.. But still enjoy the features with mini connected, one being the charging, the other mostly used is google search... Really waiting for office to give us all it's features,
Appointments, calendar etc.

Really, my iPhone goes in the cupholder closest to me--it's in an Otter Box case, so no tiny "device holder" for it. My iPod uses the device holder instead, though it can be a pain because I have a 5th gen. that refuses to fit in between the clamps. I have to situate it just right so that it doesn't pop out like a rubber band -__- *sigh* But it would be nice to have a real holder for my poor iPhone ^_____^

I am creative when it comes to my gadgets. On my motorcycle (Honda Goldwing) I mount 2 iPhone4's (one is the 4 with GPS and the other is the 4s is the active phone that I can do whatever else with it).

So, for the Mini CMS I want to use the same phone mounts (thoughtout.biz) I use their "Form" holder to hold the phones. What I plan to do for the Mini is get the PED3-AUTO-MOUNT KIT (spare parts) and an extra Auto Neck and 2 extentions.

Then either mount them to the windshield with suction cups or stick to the dash so both extensions bend around each side of the tach so I can see them. If you only have one phone or maybe a phone & GPS. This would work.

I will post pictures when I have it all set up.
