R60 Tint the Sunroof or ZippieShade?
Tint the Sunroof or ZippieShade?
I spend a lot of time in the car for work and now that the weather is getting warmer the retractable sunshade isn't cutting it for me (That's what I get for getting all black
)
I'm getting the windows tinted tomorrow and debating if I should have the sunroof tinted or just buy the ZippieShade. Anyone have any experience with either?
Will having the sunroof tinted (if any sunroof problems arise) void the warranty)? The tint is not being done by the dealership.
Thanks in advance!

I tinted my sunroof a little darker then the windows. I lived in AZ and it worked well. Sometimes I am lazy and didn't want to put up the zipee shade all the time.
On very hot days I still us the shade. Good luck!!

I just got mine tinted a week ago with 5% tint. Made a huge difference and I live in Southern AZ. I had looked at the Zipeeshade, but must say I do not like the design at all. Couldn't imagine driving around with that crazy thing.
Perforated stickers can be a solution if you like them. The drawback is that it's permanent (cannot remove it during winter to get more light inside).
In this video, you can see what it looks like (there are of course other design than the UK flag).

I can comment on both. I just had my windows tinted, and I was advised by the tint shop NOT to have the sunroofs done, that it can cause them to crack. Very reputable shop, and since they were essentially taking money out of their own pocket, I have no reason to doubt them.
I bought the zippee shade, and it does work, and works fairly well, considering. Considering: the fact that it is VERY flimsy, and I fell like I got raped for $40. To me, for what it is made out of, MAYBE $19.95. Considering: the fit is, meh, at best close, one corner or another always seems to not be covered. And considering: the fact that supposedly it has a blow away guarantee that you can run with the sunroof fully open and its not supposed to come loose, but they will replace it free if it does, YEAH RIGHT, the suction cups don't stay stuck for more than a day, I'll just take it down if I want to run the roof open, thank you very much!
Now, food for thought. I used to have a '92 Camaro with T-tops. GM offered a cloth covered insert that you would put on the underside of the tops just before you locked them down. They were the bomb. It was just like having a solid roof, quiet, cool, etc. They were a cinch to remove and they fit in the bags with the tops. I was thinking about making some of those for the mini, especially after the zippee fiasco, probably use plastic cardboard as the base, then use headliner fabric contact cemented to both sides, headliner color on the bottom, white or light gray on the top.

I went with 5% tint on both panels of the roof and it works well. However, there is a very inexpensive solution at Auto Zone. They sell a pair of windshield sunshades that are spring loaded or collapsible and the medium size fits perfectly in the sunroof track (both back and front). Very easy to put in and take out, collapses nicely to fit in the pocket behind the seat, and will certainly blow out if you open the roof all the way. I think they cost about $15 and work quite well. I learned about this when I was lurking on this site about 3 years ago.
