Lock acknowledgements

Is it possible to have the horn honk when locked by RKE? The manual says its an option, but I can only see lights or OFF as my choices when in the menu. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Steve

Mine has a beeper that sounds, but it also has the optional alarm system. BMW has a habit of tying simple things you want to big ticket items you don't want.

Parking lights blink on lock and unlock, but, only the first time you hit the remote button. If you are not sure unlock and relock.

I sure hope it can't be done. That's probably the most annoying things about cars today, followed closely by daytime running lights.

You only get the the beeps if you have the optional factory alarm system installed. It took me a couple days to figure it out...I was going through all the menus and manuals, trying to figure out why it wasn't beeping, then after a very concerned email to my MA, I was told the unfortunate truth...

I bought mine off the lot with no alarm, I was hoping to add as a retrofit... unfortunately the wiring harness is tailored to the vehicle as ordered and does not provide for a retrofit.. I don't know what year the change was made, my '05 MCS harness was wired for everything.... I read on one of the coding threads that you can tell the car it has an alarm (even though it doesn't) and that will cause the red light on the tach to flash, at least you can visually tell if the car is locked....

Eh, alarms are pointless, they do not stop car thieves, and they are ignored 99% of the time when they go off. Their #1 function at this point is ruining the quality of life in your neighborhood. I've never seen a car alarm make a bit of difference (and I actually knew a lot of car thieves in my younger years). You want added security get Lojack or something, and even thats excessive.

I agree with you, if somebody wants to get in your car they'll do it regardless of an alarm... I'm just lazy and like to hear the chirp rather than look at the car as I'm walking away from it :-)

Maybe it's just my young ears, but I can hear the doors lock and that's enough for me. As someone who occasionally naps in my car, I can't stand cars that honk when they're locked.

Is it true that you need to have the alarm to open all windows and sunroof with the fob unlock button? Or is that part of comfort access or standard?

Believe it is standard. I can do this on mine and I don't have alarm or comfort access.
