has this happened to anyone else?

weird thing happened today.

drove to work. got out of MINI, took in laptop & stuff. went back out to collect more stuff to carry into office.

skip forward 8 hours

walked out of office to car, to find it unlocked and with all the windows down.

now, I work in a fairly safe area, and probably about 40 feet away from the vehicle, but... um... I may not have locked it, but there was no way I had all the windows open this morning when I parked.

I do not have Comfort Access, and I do not have an alarm system.

normally, I would have gone to the car at lunchtime and could have discovered this earlier, but we had a pot luck in the office, so I didn't hang out w/ the car at lunch.

anyone else have this happen? any ideas?

again, I may not have locked the vehicle, but there's no way all the windows were open when I parked.

EDIT: I'm a *******. see below...

You sat on the unlock button on the remote while you were at your desk.

Have you never held down the unlock button? All the windows go down and the sunroof pops open.

wow. I had no idea!

after posting the message, I then happened to read this NAM post so I went to the garage and tried it.

now I feel both dumb, yet happy. I shall attempt to be more careful with my key in the future.

You tripped it from 40 feet? The fobs must have great range.
At least it wasn't raining.

No need to feel dumb. If your MA never showed you and you didn't read the owner's manual cover to cover—and I certainly haven't—how would you know?

Its AMAZING the range these fobs have. I park 100 feet away from my office and I can unlock my doors/pop the hatch as soon as I leave the building

I'm afraid that I'm going to unlock/open up my car some time when I'm walking out of the parking lot and it's going to rain into it. I wish there was a way to close all that up with just the fob.

I walked out into my garage last friday to find my windows down and my sun roofs vented. I don't keep my key fob in my pocket but I was fiddling with it when I talked to my husband that night. Guess I held that button down.

I remembered this post but didn't remember the cause. Thanks so much for posting this!

My first MINI was a convertible. I sat on the key fob and opened the roof during a rain. It was opened for about two hours and I had puddles inside.

I am a bit more careful now.

I had a beautiful 540I BMW years ago. I went to the local ski resort on a nice winter day to do some snowboarding. We stayed there all day because it was dumping snow like crazy. Only to find out 8 hours later my car had had all the windows opened and the sunroof open all day and night. There was at least 4-5 inches of fresh powder in the car. No Joke. The range on those remotes is fantastic...

I'm just shocked your roof worked that well. Mine takes several attempts to get it to open from the remote.

Angry Rained - Inside

Well, that's what happened to me today. It rained after I drove home late at night. When I went out to get the newspaper after a night of rain, I found all the windows down, puddles of water inside. I thought I was being careful but I got the worst case scenario.

Now I'm looking for a shop vacuum and a heater to try to minimize the risk of mold developing.

I've been waiting for an interface in the mail and I think I'll defeat that little feature for the future.

You might try a dehumidifier as well as the heater.

There's also a crystalline product called DampRid. You just put the crystals in a cup in the car, and they magically absorb a lot of the water and turn into a puddle of liquid. It has really worked great on my current car, which has a tiny leak somewhere and gets musty-smelling when it rains heavily. I think I got it at Ace Hardware.

I knew this was a problem for some people but my key fob only works like 1-2 car lengths away from my MINI. Do you guys have keyless entry?

Thanks for the suggestion of the DampRid - I found it at Home Depot.

I don't have the convenience option - just the standard key - it works at a surprising distance, certainly when the car is out in the driveway and the key is in the back of the house.

I've tried it from about 40 feet away and it works fine.

When this happened (and I posted it) the first time, I was inside a concrete building...
