Flat Load Floor Mod

My Countryman All4 that I bought off the lot was ordered with practically every option except the flat load floor.

I made one from plywood and a piano hinge purchased from Home Depot. A local car stereo installer added carpet. You can't really tell it from stock.

I used the stock floor as a template. It took an hour to make.

Now I can cover the space behind the seats or have a flat floor with the well covered.

If your Countryman came with the bi-fold panel (most, if not all in the US Countrymen do) then you just flip it all the way forward over the seats. I'm talking about the panel behind the rear seats that has a wide side and a little flap along one edge. This panel is made to flip forward over the backs of the folded down rear seats - thus covering the gaps.

Do you have any pictures? I'm curious about the hinge placement.

Mine came with the piece with the hinge that can either flip forward to cover the seats when they are down, stay up to cover the gap between the seatbacks or folded down to cover the well where the jack is stored.

The thing I made covers the well and allows the use of the aforementioned piece to cover the seatback gap or to flip forward. I trimmed the plastic liner slightly so that it would fit with the vertical panel in place.

I am not sure if I have the terminology right. I just got the CM and never knew they existed before this month...

Maybe I am just missing something that should have come with the car?

I posted a few pictures to my gallery so hopefully that helps. The hinge is about six inches from the top of the rounded edge.

We ordered the flat load floor. We will flip the double-hinged panel forward when the seats are down and then with the "flat load floor", the entire area is flat, flush and no gaps - which is what we want for our dogs. I have a photo showing the hinged panel and flat load floor that I found on the internet, but this forum is so efficient that it knows I already attached the photo to another thread and an error message says I can't attach it to this thread . . . . Technology at its finest.

Here's the link

Augsburg57,

Thanks for the info. Here is the link to the picture:

That helps a lot. It confirms that I am not missing a part. The one I made looks close enough for me but I would have ordered one if I could have.

Thanks again!

I'm a bit confused by this thread, because I didn't order a Flat Load Floor, but it sure seems like I have one anyway, as do all of the CM's I have looked at...

On mine I have a cover for the recessed area, that I can flip up to cover the gap between the rear seats but also still leave the recessed area covered, as the floor is made up of two panels.

On a side note, if you are thinking about ordering the MINI boot mat don't bother. It only works with the rear floor totally down, not with it folded up to cover the gap. It also doesn't fit down in the well which is where I was thinking it would go - a large opportunity here for third-party mat makers.

It seems like you have the flat load floor option. I only have one panel that can either cover the recessed area or flip up or forward.

Also, after I made the flat floor to cover the recessed area, I had to trim the boot mat slightly (about 1.5 inches) along the back edge so that it would fit with both floors in place.

1. Standard load floor - Covers well, flips up for privacy, covers seat gap.
2. $250 Flat Load Floor Option - Covers well when standard is fliped up
3. Together, they should provide a flat(ish) load floor with the seats folded forward., the standard all the way flipped, and the optional over the well.

I'll have mine on Saturday and will post pics and opinion.

Optional Flat Load Floor Image

Here is an image of a CM-S boot that is on the inventory list at my dealer.
It looks to have the installed Flat Floor option.
It seems to fit inside the edge of the lower storage area & the upper std. floor can lay on top as normal. There appears to be a seem where the optional floor can be flipped up at the halfway point.
Is it worth $250??
I'll report back when my CM-S with this option is delivered in a couple of days.

Sealy,

No Race!
I hope you receive Pure Orange FIRST, as I've been reading your anxious, amusing & informational posts for weeks.
I believe you have helped many of us pass the time during the process.
Our CM's may have been on the same ship, they both seem very close to delivery.
Mine should have come through Brunswick, GA though, I didn't bother to track it.
I was thankfully very busy with work & that surely helped with the wait.
Oxford is at the dealer & my MA will call as soon as it's ready. I'm fine with that.
Patients is one of my stronger traits. Less stress that way.
I'm looking forward to your pictures & critiques.

Best of luck!

If you didn't get the fold flat floor, here is a really inexpensive option to consider, works great for my two collies. Scroll down the thread to postings...

So were you still interested in sharing a paper template? I'm not super handy, but yours looks great, so it might be worth a try....
