Navigation Voice Volume

ANybody have any idea how to increase the volume on the turn directions? It reduces the volume a little bit on the radio/ipod/whatever is playing and then plays the computer direction voice. The voice is so faint that it is useless particularly and highway speeds. I have looked (it seems) everywhere. Have increased the "gong" volume thinking it might be it but to no avail. Can't find any setting in the navigation menu that changes it. Any ideas?

Can't find a good PDF for the new navigation either.

never mind...

i'm just like my father...never look at the manual!!! Although it is not very intuitive...

you have to turn the center volume dial as the instructions are being read. It states the level will be associated with the remote/key that is in the car at the current time. now i have to go out to the car and do it. too cold.

It's a lousy way of handling guidance commands. See the thread "I love my Countryman, but..." for lots more on the topic.

There is no way to set the guidance volume relative to prevailing audio source. No way to tell system to mute audio when guidance commands are issued. Stunning this was overlooked.

This non-muting or reducing of the source volume when voice directions occur makes me regret ordering nav. I certainly hope this is fixable. Got to imagine it would be.

It is very irksome. The nav is not very intuitive and is perhaps the biggest disappointment so far. Don't regret buying it though. I suffered through an absolutely inane nav system in a Volvo so this system will certainly do.

And I hate the nav in my wife's Civic. Ugh.

lenmonster-

we have a honda nav in our 2010 odyssey...it blows monkey nvts. It is so difficult to use and costed much more than the MINI system. At least with the mini nav you can actually search for something near you. The Honda nav gives you the point of interest that is closest to the Honda USA headquarters in california somewhere.

The MINI nav is 100 times better. I am glad i got it. once you figure it out it is pretty easy. My only beef so far was the volume control for the voice. Hopefully i can make that better. I'll let everyone know tomorrow.

That's funny. We have an 08 Odyssey which has the same system and we find the nav incredibly easy. Just goes to show you how user dependent these things are.

Interesting that the nav doesn't just mute the radio when she speaks like with the BT phone calls. I wonder why. That's what my wife's old BMW did with the nav.

As orher poster says just turn volume as the nav speaks. All volume functions are independant of what is playing and does get remembered. This can also be used to equalize sat radio and HD radio and other sources. It is in the manual and luckily was available before i owned the car so read cover to cover a few times.
