Question re: roof rails

We went back to Global today to get a second look at the Countryman(tested the VW Tiguan so needed to compare ). Anyway, my MA was out of town so we got another guy who we didn't really want to bother that much since he wasn't going to be our MA. Anyway, the first CM we saw was a Cosmic Blue with black roof, which is our current first choice. The problem was the roof rails were aluminum. The next CM we saw was a white with black roof and the roof rails on that seemed to be anthracite. The MA wasn't sure if one could choose the color or not? The Cosmic blue is their test drive vehicle and he said it was one of the first CMs in and just came like that, but most since seemed to have the darker rails. Like I said we didn't want to bug him since he had some people there taking delivery on a Royal Grey so we left.
Can't seem to find on the build where I would choose that.
Thanks,
Annette

It's part of the exterior chrome package

How'd you compare it to the Tiguan? The CM looks smaller or am I imagining things?

Tiguan is about a foot longer, don't think it's much wider(don't have that spec on the Tiguan) we measured the cargo area and it was 41 inches wide and I think the CM was 43"(depending on where measured). The Tiguan was a nice drive but you don't feel very involved, if that makes sense. Here's a copy of my quick review from another thread.

Just got back from test driving the VW Tiguan. Since I somehow drove off and left my purse at home, DH did all the driving, but since it will be his car that was fine.
We drove an SE, it was very nicely appointed and felt very solidly built. We were impressed with the overall quality and liked all the little extras, like storage areas and ability to adjust all the seats, front and back. They did not have a manual for us to drive so it was an automatic. It is rated to tow almost twice as much as the MINI. The one thing I noticed right away is that the back seat is way more difficult to get in/out, the door was very small and oddly shaped. Once inside, it was very roomy though. We did not like that they didn't seem really open to us ordering exactly what we want and wanted to search the inventory to find something already built, but I guess we can insist, right?
Overall, DH really liked it and said it was a great car and he would be very happy if that's what we ended up with. We went to lunch after and then drove down to the MINI dealership since he wanted to drive the MINI when the Tiguan was fresh in his mind.
This time we drove the FWD not the All4 since this is what we would most likely get, it was a manual.
My husband had WAY too much fun this time and had the famous MINI grin in no time.
I'm not sure he's going to bother looking at anything else, he seems pretty well infatuated now .

So if you get the chrome package the rails are aluminum, if not they are anthracite? Ok, makes sense I guess, although we were on the fence about the chrome but now will probably skip it since I don't like the aluminum rails in a black roof.

Almost correct. On an S or S All4, the standard rails are anthracite to match the scuttles. On base models, the standard rails are silver.

My MA said the S and All4 had anthracite and the Cooper was silver. Whether he is correct I wouldn't speculate. Of all the CM's on the lot (6) the statement proved correct.

Hm, well the one we drove today was an S, but it had the aluminum rails (or silver or titanium, I think on the sticker it said titanium). But it did have the chrome package, so maybe that overrode the anthracite rails since I see it is listed in the chrome package.
Scuttles, huh, learn something new every day. Never knew that part had a name. I'm thinking that will be one of our first mods, to change those out in some manner.

Yes the chrome package on an S or All4 changes the rails and scuttles to silver along with the intakes on the front air dam. There is no titanium option.

I have a True Blue, black roof, no chrome package, S and all of the above parts are anthracite(black). Pictures in my gallery.

Cool, gotcha.
I called it titanium since that is what I discovered they call it in the configurator.
From the configurator-Chrome Line Exterior
Give your MINI a little extra polish with brake ducts, side direction indicators and rear bumper trim in chrome. Note:This package includes roof rails in a complementary titanium silver silk matte finish.
