I had the I phone 4, went from AT&T > Verizon 4s and have had no issues using the supplied Y cable with either.

 

iOS5 seems to have fixed that problem for the post march build dates. We were always ok with the y cable. But apparently we're now SOL for the adapter

Hi,

I have a may/june 2011 Countryman Cooper S All4, whit every extra exept sport-button.
SW version:
Multimedia: MX-003.004.031
Telephone: TX-003.004.031
iPhone 4 Dock:
84 21-2 218 390-02

All the MINI connected stuff like "Mission Control" "Dynamic Music" etc. works perfectly.
But the PlugIn function dos not work, so no iPod and video function :(
The only thing that happens when I try PlugIn is that I get a message telling me: "No PlugIn Compatible device connected"

After talking to the sales and parts people at my dealer it seams like they are as if not more confused about what dock that work than we are.

I think that we need to get a xx xx-x xxx 392 unit that should support iPod and video tested so we know if this is the problem.

Hope some one will find out what going on here.

To you that have the same dock as I do, do you get iPod/video to work?

I have a iPhone 4, running latest version of iOS5.

 

Nothing in the last 6 pages has changed my mind.

I finally got info from MINI and they are telling me that the 392 will not support US media that it why I can not get them. I am also being told that the media adapter you tried here ( 2 218 390) is the proper media adapter for your vehicle. I am currently out of stock and more are incoming. Possibly the one you tried had issues but we can try one of the new ones I will be getting. I will contact you when they arrive.

It seems to me you have the correct SW (June build), Cradle, iPhone4/iOS5. I assume you have MINI Connected (with Navigation).

By "xx xx-x xxx 392" do you mean "P/N 84 21 2 199 392”? Verify all the digits because several posts suggest this is a BMW part no. only, although I don’t know if anybody has tried this cradle on a Mini.

If "84 21 2 199 392" is the part number you have in mind, Flyer53 just posted we cannot get this cradle in the US. Are you in Norway? Maybe it is available in Europe.

 

Flyer 53, Why not ask your dealer to update your software? It seems like we have conclusive evidence (including photographs) that there are software updates.

Just a thought.

 

Yes…I can confirm….after my Email the PM called to verify his email.
P/N 84 21 2 199 392 is a non-USA cradle…Europe only!!

 

My intensions indeed.. I'm hoping the supposedly correct cradle will get here this week and my vehicle's hood needs to get re-filmed. 3M application after break-in is terrible.
Repair house used a different 3rd party than the original applicator. It will be there a few days…they can do all the updates available...

Refer to my post on page 6 for correct part numbers. MINI USA does not know the difference between MINI and BMW adapters. It seems like we have narrowed this issue down to a software version difference.

Since there is no bulletin on the issue, you will not be able to take your vehicle in and have an update applied. What would have to happen is that you come in with the adapter and issue, have the dealer run through their diagnosis and have MINI say do this or do that. From what I have been told, the whole car needs to be updated so every module would then be up to date. I cannot confirm or deny that this will fix anything.

However, looking through my information again, I see a potential cause of the issue. CHAMP 2 PN 65123456389 is up to a 3/11 build date. This tells me that all cars with MINI Connected up to 03/11 build date have this "radio" and most likely a different software version than the next PN supersession.

After all this, it sounds like a PN change for the CHAMP 2 has brought with it a software change which in earlier versions, is not allowing for proper functionality of the adapter cradle.

To add a little more detail to Flyer53's post, if you go to Mini online (his above link) and select the bottom-most cradle (the one for $223.85), add it to your Cart and Checkout, you will see the Part Number "84 21 2 199 392" as you float over the Description. This Part Number is not available in the US and as Mike L. points out above, not even correct for iPhone 4/4s with iOS5 on the Countryman with Mini Connect (and we all suspect requires a post 03/11 build date).

Maybe someone should try to buy this and see what happens?

Flyer53 - do you still have the 392 cradle? If so, perhaps you can take it and your phone to NCM the next time you visit and try it in one of the new Countryman?

 

Never got my hands on the 392. That's the one I ordered online through MiniUSA and Darin PMngr. at NCM is unable to order and then told it's not available for the US Mini's.
Waiting for one of the 390's to come in, I know it won't work... Even though it's suppose to and then give it to service and ask them to look for updates in software/firmware..
See what happens...

Parts called and they received a handful of snapin cradles and have set one aside for ME Well seeing I have already tried the same
model # 84 21-2 218 390 just a few days ago was not expecting much other than the not compatible message. What I did not understand is I wasn't even getting a charge symbol or chirp when powered. Even the basic of basics charged the I phone 4 previously. Fifteen or so frustrated minutes later I dropped my mini flashlight I was using under the armrest on the rail. I lift the armrest up out of the way...vertical and....sounds the tone when you charge your phone...
Interesting ?? Bring the armrest back to normal and no power...back up and powered back up. So obviously some connection is shortening or loose.
Still displays "no compatible device connected". Started up the mini connected app and got a few apps running. Went to external devices and showed my 4s connected via USB and able to play everything via my phone including showing album art! Web radio & driving excitement working. Mission, google, FB, Twitter
not available. So is remaining items not working cause, armrest wiring issues,
cradle or needed updated software? I may check out the cradle and connections this weekend after that over to service for them to make it all good as this is the correct cradle according to several sources. By the way the box stated
84 21-2 218 390, the actual cradle # reads 84 21-2 218 390-02

 

Flyer53, Sounds like progress? Did you consider trying your cradle (I assume you bought one) and your iPhone in a Countryman with Connected that your dealer has in stock?

Then you can eliminate the bad cradle angle and know you have a proven good cradle/iPhone combination.

Just a suggestion.

On a related subject is there updated Documentation on Mini Connected with all the new features from iOS5? I thought I saw a PDF file somewhere?

My thought as well. Picked up (purchased) the cradle just before 5 as parts was closing. I'll call tomorrow, hopefully they'll have something on the lot with the connected configurations... Not sure about the updated docs for connected.
