Here's my reply…and quick no less…just sent him the email.

Good Afternoon Fred,

I am currently trying to get MINI to release the cradle you ordered. There are none in the US but there is quantity in Europe but they will not let me order it. I hope to have an answer by tomorrow.

Thank you,

Let me add to the confusion. When I try to do the Minimilism 'thing' through Connected, it tells me I have to use a snap-in adapter. Does anyone else get this message? If there's no snap-in available then I'm kinda hosed. ???

If you have an older iPhone (3G?) that can't be upgraded to the latest IOS, then yes you're stuck.
The 4 and 4s both can get all apps through the y-cable with the latest major IOS update.

Well, at least my 3Gs with iOS5 works. I guess there IS a working snap-in for that model but I'll wait...

So...take a look below. This is the chart I have created for cradle adapters:
3G/S music (non-MINI Connected)- 84212186288
4/S music (non-MINI Connected)- 84212199393

3G/S media (MINI Connected only)- 84212218391
4/S media (MINI Connected only)- 84212218390

You can find them all here. I have never had an issue with any of these adapters in R60s. We are exculsively MINI meaning we have no BMW franchise so we do not usually have any part number mix-ups or confusions.

Interesting, because 4/S media (MINI Connected only)- 84212218390
was the one I tired out At NC Mini on Saturday.
Would build dates make a different ?

Mike,

Thanks for providing some clarity on this confusing subject!

Any chance of a discount if we put together a group buy?

The information listed is correct to the best of my knowledge and the fact that I stock and sell those numbers is also a good sign!

As far as a group buy, let me see what I can come up with and I will try to respond with an answer tomorrow.

We do not have any 2011 Countryman with connected at our store at this time. However, I can try and keep my eyes open for one that comes in. I have a customer that I have worked with on several accessories, including a cradle, and her build date is 06/2011 and has no issues with her 84212218390 cradle.

Just got back from New Country Mini…re-tested (2) I phone 4 cradles. One I tested last week but did not verify #'s…
This time I did: Box Part # 84 21 2 218 390,
Cradle #84 21 2 218 390-04

2nd cradle they let me try was boxed # 84 21 2 218 390,
Cradle #84 21 2 218 390-02

Neither cradle was recognized by mini connected…did not even look like it was a taking a charge like some of the others I tried months ago.
Mine was a pre March 2011 build

Well, based on your current experience looks like the issue is with the pre-March built dates as my 6/11 build works with the 84 21 2 218 390-02.

Within the Connected unit you can view the firmware and potentially update it. Mini.com/connected says there are no updates, but doesn't even let you enter what you have

Vince,

I'm working on something for those who have compatible systems.

This is turning into a very interesting topic. I will continue to dig around and see what I can find.

well that certainly explains why we've had issues with this adapter, and why the Y cable worked for some and not others (pre iOS5)

now to figure out how to update . . .

Just advise if there is something I can do to help.

I have an iPod 4 Touch/iOS5 which supports 100% of the MiniConnected features (Album Art, Driving Excitement, etc) through the Y cable within the limits of not having Internet Access (since this is not a phone). I have a Motorola phone that works as advertised through Bluetooth (obviously no Connect).

I want to take the iPhone 4S plung but want to make sure everything works first, otherwise I might as well stay with my current set-up.
