Hi,

I'm about to order a new 07 CMS. Which one is more durable in the long run, cloth or leatherette? is it true that leatherette should last longer than real leather in general?

i dunno but i got the leatherette on mine i think it looks better then cloth and costs less then real Leather.. well thats my .02 cents

 

I prefer real leather myself, however I belive (from what I read) that leatherette would be the longest lasting

 

The leatherette MINI uses is high quality, I assure you. Mine is often mistaken for real leather. But it doesn't require the maintenance of the real stuff and won't wear in spots like the real stuff can.

Compared to cloth... IMO, there is no comparison. Leather or leatherette looks much more classy, to me.

If you're worried about the hot/cold factor, get the heated seats (highly recommended). And it gets pretty darn hot around here in the summer... I didn't have any problems with really hot seats, myself.

I hate the term leatherette, but I have to admit that I am pleased with the performance of the MINI leatherette so far. The seats look good and appear to be bulletproof.

 

I have an 02 MC and prior to my purchase, April 2006 the dealer replaced the entire interior as the leatherette seats started to crack and fall apart. The car now has cloth seats and I love them. We also have a 02 MCS and it has leather seats but I much prefer the cloth because of the leather slide factor I can't keep my butt in the seat. Heated seats whether they be cloth, leatherette or leather have got to be the best option choice up here in Canada.

I would bet the Leatherette MINI uses today isn't the same they used in 2002. Anyone know for sure ?

 

Leatherette more prone to punch holes than leather. Leather not the best for water/ salt water. Cloth stain easier, but hold you in place better with non-S seats. Leather can stain easier than leatherette. Your seat , your decesion.

Leatherette is looks great over time, but I got cloth because my car parks in the Texas sun all day and the seats get really hot!! If it weren't for that I'd get leatherette.

 

Leatherette, leatherette, leatherette. I absolutely love mine. I have spilled stuff, my son has refunded a meal in it, I have dropped stuff on both the seats and the floor (rubber mats), and the leatherette still looks brand new. Also, almost everyone who gets in it thinks it's real leather. I would not spend the $$$ on the real leather, or would I get cloth. I think leatherette was my best decision!

 

I have the leatherette in my 06 and its awesome. 99% of the people that see it or ride in my MINI cant tell the difference between the leather they have in their rides to mine. Its the best bang for the buck. But on the other side I did sit in an 07 with the red leather in it and must say it was Reallllly Nice!

My 05 S was mis delivered with leatherette. So I had those for a short time before getting the cloth I ordered. After about 2 weeks they had seats to swap for me. I did not like the leatherette because it transmitted a buzz / vibration to a very specific part of my anatomy that felt like it synced to the exhaust at highway cruising speed. It was NOT pleasent and it was very pronounced.

I did NOT want a 'butt orifice vibrator' as part of my car. Not my cup of tea thank you very much! Now, perhaps this has to do with the weight, build, and shape of the particular tush, but I hated it. Then the cloth seats came in and it was gone. The leatherette seat bottom was a bit firmer and that made the difference.

A matter of taste, but be sure to test drive your choice and see if it bugs you. Of course a few of you may even like that sort of thing!

 

Well I have leather and cloth and am tickled to death....plus I enjoy pampering the seats to keep them young. There is nothing quite like riding on leather!!

 

Leatherette!

 

I always get cloth seats in my cars. They are the most comfortable to me in any weather without the need for heat or AC.

We went for leatherette on our cabrio and my former MCS. However, when we ordered the JCW, we went with cloth - wife's decision. We're in SoCal so when it gets hot, the leatherette seats are uncomfortable but the cloth seats allow for more breathing room. We have put Wet Okole seatcovers in our cabrio...a little better for those hot days.
