Was just over on MINI2 and a reliable source says that our MINI's have been joined by 39 GP's on their way to Monterey! I had previously heard that the GP's, though Calif. bound, were coming through the east coast. 6 degrees makes for a small world. Cool, very cool.

Hmmm... I will have to check that out. Since the GP's need to be in Monerey before 8/21 (I think) would they have loaded any other west coast bound mini's and be sending them by rail with them? Maybe my car will be riding with it's racing cousins! Doubt it though... however it would be nice because then I could track my car!

Well, its Sunday morning. Up until now, its been a frantic checking of this site, that site, wishing and hoping...did he get built?.....will I make the ship? and so on and so on. Whew!!! Now what do we do? Sure, we can check the ship tracking sites but there's really nothing more we can do but fret. Well, at least the weather looks good for the voyage so far.
We are in good company, referring to the 39 GP's on board. Maybe, I can steal a hp or two by osmosis....Red, up to 212hp one of the GP's down to 212 hp. They probably wouldn't miss a hp or two.
You can tell I've got to figure out a new routine because I'm reduced to babbling about nonsense.
How'd everybody end up here, waiting for a new MINI?
In my case, this is our/my 3rd MCS. Didn't start with the MC (no dis intended) because I knew I couldn't settle for less power when more was available. In Milwaukee, MINI is mixed in 1 dealership with BMW, Porsche, Audi, MB and Infiniti. I bought a 2004 Infiniti FX 35 at the same time as my fiancée bought a 2004 MCS40. I was set on getting that Infiniti as it is an awesome machine (for an SUV). It's fast, it handles better than many "sporty coupes", its refined and reliable. My S/O, at the time, said, why don't we get 2 MINI's. Nah says I, I want my SUV. I didn't really spend much time with the MINI, so I didn't know what I was missing. Anyway, gas started its climb and fortunately I saw the light about a month before the bottom of the SUV trade value fell out. I got my 05 PW/B MCS and man, that was it!!! The only regret was that I didn't go JCW. I was also impatient and bought off the lot:impatient . Well, I've since racked up 30,000 mi and a) wanted to get that JCW before MINI went turbo (love that whine) and b) trade before its value went completely to hell. Well here I am,here We are.
What about y'all. How'd you get here?

Ive been lurking around MINI related sites since I heard about it--as you can see from my join date. I think I bored everyone to tears with how I got to the point of *finally* buying one--but if you are bored, its all here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=72881

Good story! I noticed in that thread the mention of Fiat! That was my first new car buy. Around 1972, I lusted after the Fiat X/19 but I only had enough $$ for the 128 Sport Coupe. It was a decent little car though none too reliable.

None too reliable--wasn't that the definition of a Fiat? That being said, in terms of fun cars there really weren't many choices, well at least affordable ones, then!

My partners eyes rolling at me (affectionately, i think) as i sneak another call in to ASK MINI... OK... so now (Sunday evening) it is "in transit", was still "in production" Friday night... so what date is/was its birthday? More importantly the VIN is still not in the WW ship site - are we sure that's the only place it will go? Will I stay this obsessive when it arrives?

Thanks all!
John

Hey John,

If you are on the east coast (or close to for your car to come in port there versus the west coast), then WW is the company that brings the cars. However, for folks like me on the west it can be others such as NYK. Hope that helps!

Finally got around to reading your story! Brought back a lot of memories for me too. You said you were in AZ... Phoenix or Tucson? I am an AZ native and graduated from HS in the late 80's. I was fortunate enough to have a dad that sought out a '66 Mustang that we worked on together. The Mini brings me back to those days as I have had a host of boring (beige-like) cars since then.

Perdita is on the Liberty...

Perdita made the Liberty and is en route! So far (knock wood) things have gone all too smoothly; hope the trend continues.

You're no more o/c than any of the rest of us. Check askmini today and talk to a human who can give far more accurate info than the weekend robot.

O/C, us? I check it every morning, even though it is wrong (stills says awaiting transport)--I just want to see when the status changs on the site even though I know McSweeney is on the way already. All of this at 6am--but Im not obsessed or anything.

My current beige-like vehicle, a 95 Saturn SC2 (bought used) complete with sagging headliner, door cloth trim that has peeled away as has the weather stripping on both doors AND a non-functioning moon roof is being hauled off to be auctioned for charity (NPR car donation program). All of this is in preparation of relocating back to Virginia at the end of the week where soon thereafter I will rendezvous with my MINI

I was in Tucson--Sahuaro HS '84--and, yup, that means the MINI is my official 40th b-day present to myself--heck if the stars align correctly it is possible (though not likely I think) I could get it on the actual b-day.

Ill settle for close.

There was a 66 Mustang on the dealer's lot when I got out of Basic Training at Ft. Sill right after HS--tried to get it but some damn officer paid cash for it! THat would have been much nicer than the bland-mobile I got instead!

I just got the call sign for the Liberty...it is WRYX...we're slowly making progress across the ocean..

How did I decide to get a mini?? Well...I have always been in love with the mini since they started production again. It just came down to a point for me on when I could afford it... I just purchased a condo, and the next big purchase was going to be a new car (of course the mini!!)...so when I had enough saved up for a decent down payment, I went and ordered it! End of story..

Moon Valley, Class of '88. The mini weighs about the same as the Mustang, but will corner a heck of a lot better!

My Mini was finished last Friday! It’s now on its way to Southampton docks. Hopefully it can get on the Integrity or Tasco. Both are scheduled to arrive at Charleston, SC on Aug 12th. Now I will be watching the cargo bookings.
