Ha! That is too funny! I thought on the way in to work this morning that I am running out of reading material and need to download the manual off of the Owners Lounge. So, your in good company. This way we will be able to ramble off useless facts and hope that questions come up in Trivial Pursuit related to Mini Coopers!

Regarding my conversation with Ask MINI this morning... my car started on the 7th with completion on the 17th... however, I was told that there is a glitch with the cars started on 7/7 and the computer is not updating right now, but should over the weekend. He said that he thought these cars would be delayed a bit Not sure how accurate this information is... I was hoping it would be early and make the ship on 7/17 headed to the west coast. Wishful thinking...

I do know that they will do whatever possible to get our cars to us by the end of the month in August, so as not to miss these sales for that month.

My online status hasn't changed and the ASK MINI computer phone thingamajog still says it expects the car to be complete on 7/17. I hope so and that it goes directly to a ship with no waiting!

Its like being a kid the weeks before x-mas all over again!

I read it as re-tooling for the 2007 Coopers to be produced (though sounds like they will produce 2006's for a couple months longer for North America). I like you FedEx idea!

The marketing person in me sees a funny advertisement idea here with a MINI being delivered by the FedEx guy!

Hmmm... maybe we should leverage that the Pure Silver mini's are uniting and we demand to be produced on time! Somehow I think someone in the UK might say "that bloke is off his block."

Getting a little nervous now. As long as everything stays the same, its cool. Per askmini yesterday, I'm scheduled for production, completion date: 7/18. I called today (obsessive?...nah!) which is Sat. and no human to talk to and the computer voice says completion: 7/19 ...oh, oh 1 day closer to plant shutdown. Combined with the forementioned computer glitches....chatter,chatter.

Interesting... Not sure why everyone seems to be getting pushed back a day. I hope it has nothing to do with the new paint process they started a little over a month ago. http://motoringfile.com/2006/07/09/m...-paint-system/

Well, I do know that they are very concerned with quality and want to make sure they don't have problems later as they cost much more to fix. If anyone hears anything from their rep at the dealer or gets an update from a human at Ask Mini on Monday, be sure and let us know!

Just glancing at everyone's sig it looks like this is everyone's first MINI. Everybody is excited even giddy with anticipation. Just to show you what you're about to get into (The MINI Life) is something extraordinary, look at my situation. This is our 3rd MINI purchase. My fiancée has the MCS40. We got it in July, 2004 from dealer inventory. We have almost 9,000 miles on it. I loved it so much that in April, 2005, I bought my 2005 PW/B MCS off the lot and have put 30,000 miles on it since 4/05. The improved gearing and 5 extra hp over the 04 made a tremendous difference, so it seemed, to the overall drivability of the car. With the warranty quickly evaporating and the imminent loss of trade value plus the end of a great engine run caused me to pull the trigger on a trade. It also gave me a chance to build my own and experience what we are all feeling; obsessive, compulsive, unquenchable anticipation. I have the advantage of being able to drive a MCS while I wait but that doesn't make the wait much easier contrary to what you might think.
What I'm trying to point out is that with few exceptions, Porsche, Ferrari for example, are you going to get into such a brand loyalty, a fever as it were, as the MINI experience. You get one, maybe you continually mod it up or just drive it until you want another one, maybe just a little better but your thirst isn't quenched by just one MINI. Oh, no my friends; its just starting for you and it continues for me. I'm just as pumped waiting for mine, oh, yeah, an 06 CR/B MCS/JCW, as you are waiting for your first. I'm 55 years old and this makes me feel like a kid. More old folks stop me in parking lots than young folks but driving, I get stares from kids to old folks. Get used to it. I don't think peoples fascination with the MINI is going to stop anytime soon.
Anyway, I'm just rambling on, killing time until the damn O.L. tells me its at the dealer. Enjoy this anticipation. Its just the beginning; the next mod, the next road trip, the next MINI .

P.S. The dog loves them too .

This is absolutely great to hear I had a feeling from years of lurking that this would be the case, but to have to confirmed that the MINI obsession doesn't just wear off as the miles motor on is good news. I truly haven't felt this silly sort of anticipation since I was a kid. Not only is this my first MINI, but it is also my first brand new car since 1985--so its been awhile since I've been in the new car v. used car market!

Now, if they would just get the thing here (tentatively named McSweeney--well, MINI Max McSweeney in full). It is actually supposed to be done today. Heck, Ive only called ASK MINI twice today so far

What a great commentary! I too feel like the evening before my first trip to Disneyland. Over the past few years I have driven more practical, company-type cars... 4 doors, Ford Taurus, etc. I am excited about the reckless abandon of driving a MINI, not for practicality but to enjoy it! It's good to hear from a veteran that the excitement continues after ownership.

Passed US driving test (in the bronx!) on 7/7, test drove 7/7, ordered 7/8, scheduled to be finished on 7/22. Red MCSa, white roof/mirrors, panther leather/anthacite, moonroof, center armrest, auto a/c, navi/computer, rear fog lamps.

They won't let anyone test drive it will they?

Yeah!! I just sat day dreaming that was me behind the wheel... After I ordered my mini, I found the Mini Parklane, which is almost exactly like the one I ordered..with a few exceptions (mine doesn't have the exterior chrome and my mirrors are gonna be silver)... Now I want the Parklane badge ...

I still don't understand why it's taking so long for mine to get into production. I placed my order before July 4th. I think it was the 1st or 2nd. Ask Mini and the Owner's Lounge both say that it's still awaiting a production date. We went back by the dealer (LB Mini, which we haven't been impressed with BTW) on Saturday. We were wondering if we could make any changes to the configuration, and the person we talked to said it was too close to being scheduled for production to make any changes. But he said he would check with his manager (when they got out of their meeting) and call me back on my cell phone in a couple of hours. Well, needless to say, they never called me.

Maybe the dealer you went through didn't have any spec cars up for production?? That could be one reason why it is taking so long...call and talk to a person at 1-866-ASK-MINI they always have more information that the automated system..

Well..I just called ASK MINI, for the first time since Friday..and my completion date is now the 18th, one day later than it was on Friday..ugh..I guess I am in the "Body Shop"

Anybody else got a completion date for the 18th now??
