Thanks everybody for your warm welcome to Penelope. It makes her feel warm and fuzzy.

pancakex - so glad you'll be motoring soon! Will you stay a night in SLC?

Minitenango - can't loan you my canyons, but how about a motoring trip to Utah? There might be a MINI under the Arches trip next fall (info is in the Rocky Mountain Regional Forum).

Swizzle - you really need to take Nigel out more often. MINIs are known to get restless when they are not exercised properly. He might start chewing on your furniture or wetting the rug!

Jayne - I am soooo happy that Gypsy is okay this morning. That must have been really scary. I can't wait for Penelope to get accessorized! I have a sweet sunroof cover that I designed on it's way from Cooper flags. I'll take more pics next week.

adrenalinlife - good for you for telling the jerk what you thought about his tactics, and for letting HQ know about it. Now go pick up that baby and have a fantastic motoring day!!!

The only hard part is threading the screw on the right side. Put the shelf in gentle so you don't scrape the pillar.

Thanks for the advice. It's a little scary to start pulling stuff out of my brand new MINI!

OK.. sorry it has taken so long. Here are the promised pics of the chrome grill. I think it really set off the chrome on the front of the car. Also notice the silver turn lights in the signals. Finally notice the front mud flaps.

My wife freaked when she came around the corner and saw the car in this condition after 3 days of ownership. My friend Shaun (pictured) tried to make it better by acting like the front of the car and holding up the bumper. But as you can see it turned out great!!!

another mini comes home!

Drove home my gorgeous PW Cabrio last night!

Oh, the understated "thunk" of precision-engineered doors closing! Oh, the sweet, low growl of a "cute" car with a tiger soul! Oh, the glowing warmth when en route from sunbaked dealer (pleasanton) to cold foggy city (san francisco) top-down--when i remembered that i now have HEATED SEATS!

been driving a lebaron convertible for 9 years and while i will always have great fondness for that car, boy does it make this one even sweeter.

although i must say it was a lot easier to leave that car alone on city streets...drove straight from dealer yesterday evening to a friend's party in the mission and parked on 16th between guerrero & valencia, which those of you who know SF will know is kind of a nervous-making spot to leave a brand spankin' new car...

but so far so good and she/he's waiting for me behind the office now in a nice gated lot, and it's VERY hard to sit here where i can't even LOOK.

more delight than i ever expected.

Looks very nice. Since I have the same color combo, I'm very interested in what you've done to the grill. Chrome or Aero? Aero is a bit more involved since one needs to shave some off the back to get it to fit properly. I ultimately want to add fog lamps that look like the driving lamps. Would be more usefull that way. The white turn signals help quite a lot. Are the mudflaps a Mini part or 3rd party? Cool, very cool.

VERY nice - thanks for posting!! Did any of my PW friends here go for the chrome grill? It look's fantastic against hero's DS. Really like the turn signals too. I've been seeing them in the magazines I now get and my initial thought is "oh, I need those!", then I think "but they're just little lights, do I really???" So now I'm thinking YES!

Chrome Grille is what we put on. Removed the Dark Silver one. Got the silver turn signals off ebay but was told that you can use silver enamel spray paint. Mudflaps are a MINI part. Directions are on motoringfile.com

The lights make a HUGE difference. Do a search here. It can be a DIY but I got mine off ebay for $12.99 w/ship.

So glad Penelope has finally made it home. Tanner is happy that another of his friends he made in the UK has made it home safely. Keep the pics coming.

Yeah, guess I better start motoring more. I've had Tanner for about 5 days now and am just over 350. Looking forward to a full weekend off with him and see how much time in the sun we can get in.

I'm at 28 hours and 105 miles. Had to work today - GEEZ! Although I did find time to hurry and install my magnetic grill badge and my "stoopidgirl" blue eyes. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the interior and exterior mods and the thread called "show me your eyes".

Anyway, lulu- where the heck are those pics! wow, we are really starting to get lots of our babies home now. It's sooo very exciting! I let a friend of mine motor in Penelope today and now she has serious MINI envy. She get saying things like "wow, nimble"; and "oooo, nice handling"; etc. etc. You know how it is, once you drive one, you buy one!

West Coast Update

Talked to my MA, and my Mini is off the ship. He thinks thinks two days till it arrives at the dealership. The estimated arrival date on MiniUSA said 7/16/06.
Since I have to pick it up at the Oregon boarder, I am hoping to get it next Wednesday. Our 10 year anniversary is Thursday, what a fun way to celebrate, motoring around in the new Mini!!

Autocross at Lowes!!!

Well, not really. But - There is a huge Lowes store being built down the street from our house. It will be opening in a few days, but right now it has the biggest, emptiest parking lot I've ever seen. Not only that, it is dotted by little islands with little trees that are perfectly spaced for slalom! (Sorry, I know ski terms, not autocross terms!) . Anyhoo, we took Penelope over and did figure eights and donuts and zipped up and down and back and forth (whilst minding the break in-rules, of course) and generally behaved like a teenager driving his first car. We were a little worried that Office Friendly might come and harass us, but we figured there wasn't much he could do.

It was soooo fun. I highly recommend motoring in your nearest home improvement store parking lot. Cheap thrills, what can I say?

woohoo! One more PW/B gracing the shores of America. Are you going to drive it up the coast on your way home? That's one of my many MINI adventures I'm planning. I used to live in Eugene and I LOVE the Oregon coast.
