Anyone In Delaware???

Recently new to the forum...

Just looking to see how local everyone is. I know that DEmini is local, considering once a week, he brings his car over and we work on them.
I am in Bear, DE about 15 minutes south of wilmington.

I know in the future, we are trying to coordinate a road rally up to northern maine, looking in 2007 for that.

2002 DS MCS

Yep Wilmington, DE here!

Anyone involved in the Philly Mini Club? Doesn't seem to be too much activity over on their site!

whoo-hoo, now we are up to three!

We will have two mini's soon, does that count as four, or more like 3.5 since they live at the same house?

And there were 3.....point 5.

There's gotta be some more people here from Northern DE/Philadelphia Metro area!? Where is everyone!? Show Your Faces!

Last night JustinO and I did the beltline blackout and the cars look sooo much cleaner. It's hard to imagine how much different it looks until you see two identical DS/B MCS's sitting next to eachother, one with the blackout, one without. We used the Scotchcal Striping Tape from 3M that has been mentioned on this forum before. Great suggestion, and I highley recommend the product.

Ok so seriuosly, we need to plan a Northern DE/Philly meet and greet somewhere...if there are more of you around, post up!

I have always wonder about the variety of licence plates I have seen from the Great State of Delaware. What is the significence of a black plate?

Hello

New to the forum...new to MC...living in Wilmington...an Audi enthusiast that just traded in my 04 S4 for 05 MCS, pick it up Tuesday from Otto's

BTW...Black tags are a Historic Re-issue thing. You have to go through a Historic Group to convert up to a 5 number tag (the max #) & this the cheapest way or on occassion you may be able to acquire one privately...recently saw one selling for $300...

The Black tag is the historic plate. I think mine cost me $50 to have made, its a porcelain. They do limit the number of tags that they issue. For it to be a legal tag, for a passenger car, it cannot exceed 86999.

I actually got mine by calling DMV to see what was the lowest tag number they have available. I did this when i bought my 4runner (car before the mini). So i just had the dealer do the title work to get me that tag, which was a low number. Then i just ordered the tag from http://members.aol.com/BlackTags/ \

People do sell them, but u can just call DMV like i did, and get a random number.

JustinO you gotta hit preview if you cut and paste. I've done the same.

Very curious about the state of Delaware - it seems all my family is slowly migrating to DE. With what I pay in taxes I should too. No state or sales tax is certainly okay by me. I'm just not comfortable living on a coastal plain - much prefer Piedmont - makes for much more interesting roads

Thanks everyone for the tag info

Real Estate taxes are cheap - roughly $1/sq.ft. If you have kids, you'll probably be interested in Private schools; that's where the $$$ comes into play. No sales tax; however, auto tax is 2.75% - still much better than most.

Delaware has no sales tax, but they DO have the state income tax. And it's pretty high.

There are a few roads that are great for driving in DE. Anything south of the C&D Canal is as flat as a board, but North of 95 in North wilmington, you can come across some tight and twisty roads, up by the DuPont Estate.

Being in the mortgage business, i love DE property taxes, i know some of my friends in PA pay 3-4 times as much as i do. Then agian, i have to send my kids (when i have them) to private school. But they wont be in school forever!

I leave for one weekend and this thread blows up.

Additional information on the black tags:
The lower the number, the more expensive. My friend has the tag "345" he bought it at an auction for $10,000. That's right...$10K...

One similar low three digit tag just sold for $150,000 at an auction, so the tags are seen as an investment.

Now that we are all here and meeting, and since the phillymini.org group is hard to get ahold of, who wants to have a little meet and greet somewhere in the area?!

JustinO - Thanks for posting pics of my car with Bird Poop on the bumper for more recent/cleaner pics, see my gallery!

Hey DeMini,

You should clean your car before bringing it to my MINI Tuning Garage?
What about a meet up?

Good Philly Cheesesteaks are inevitable! Let me look around for someplace and we'll plan something for a weekend in January

Do you have a thread with more information on your club's event? Why don't we all meet up here? Sounds like a good idea to me!
